CAN I USE MH?

I'm 4 weeks into flowering and all of a sudden my brand new HSP light burnt out. Nothing hit it or anything like that for it to go out. But I went in today and looked and it was out. Bought it on 3-14 so not even a month old. My question is... Can I use the MH bulb I have until I get a new bulb? I'm gonna try and see if where I bought it will exchange it but if not I'm out $50. Would the MH make a difference or can I use it without any change? Thanks yall!

It depends on the ballast you have. If it was made for using both types of lights like many of the newer digital ballasts are, then it will work OK.

Assuming that is the case, your plants just won't get the ideal light for flowering, but they won't die either.

Ya it's a digital greenhouse switchable ballast so there's no worries there. I'm going tomorrow to see about an exchange but if they wont I dont really wanna drop $50 on a new bulb unless I have to. Summer is right around the corner so I'll be growin outside. We'll see I guess

I've been using 10,000 K MH bulbs for veg and flowering, because it's all I had. They certainly work, although are maybe not optimal. However I just bought some Iwasaki 6500 K bulbs which are more broad spectrum and stronger in the red/yellow end (compared to the blue 10,000 K) and should help during flowering. Since I don't want to spend money on a new ballast, it's my best option. We'll see what happens -- I'm going to put the bulbs in tonight, but I'm already 5 weeks into flowering. Hope it's not too late to see some improvement in yield.

i used to use them years ago.it will be fine.the buds will be more leafy and not so dense but you can still get great results.

I went to the grow store I purchased the light at and there was a year warrenty on it so they replaced it no questions asked. Back to HPS I go. Thanks for the tips though in case it happens again. By the way I go to HTG Supply in Cranberry,PA I've seen NUMEROUS posts on here asking if they're a good place to shop..... WONDERFUL!!!
