Can I Convert A 1000W MH To A HPS By just adding a ignitor???

Cant you just use a dual spectrum globe MH+Hps get the best of both that way and i think they work in standard MH ballast but not sure?

I could do that but if i could just add an igniter that would be cheaper seeing as i already have a HPS bulb.

The transformer/cap is the same as far as I know, so yeah. Pretty sure you just need to add the right size ignitor to make it into an HPS. Thats the way the non-digital dual ballast work too... The switch just takes the ignitor in/out of the circuit.

is this a digital ballest? if it is you can not do that. They are sealed in Resin to keep the heat down. You can not replace anything on a digital.

With 400w and 600W HPS ballasts, I like to run MH bulbs as [iirc the 600] the Sodium runs a 4.5A Ballast, MH normally a 3.5A ... so running a MH 'hotter' gives out more lumens, but reduces bulb life.... not a concern........ BUT... if you go the other way round and stick a HPS bulb into a MH Ballast, I think you will find it runs it too 'cold' ... not enough Amps for it to kick out the normal lumens.
