wow thanks for the help.. i im gonna try it.the room is gonna be 15 x 20. if the ducting was below the frost line it probably wouldnt show and its gonna be concrete block and heavily insulated plus ac and some of the vents are gonna be ran underground 3 to 5 ft.to cool them (in and out of the room)then into a regular house vent. plus the ceiling of this contrapition is gonna be 3 feet underground..thanks again.. i learned alot from this thread .

you could buy a some flir goggles or something.. but they are expensive. would be interesting to run some tests with them. Maybe you can rent them somewhere?

whats considered heavy insultation.. 6 inches thick?

Depends on the material. 6" of fiberglass bat isnt really that thick, whereas 6" of foam board would be considered really thick.
I'm not a big fan of fiberglass as it allows for heat convection, meaning the heat is allowed to flow through because its porous kinda like the filter on your heat/ac unit. Its better than nothing but not the most efficient.

Cellulose is really good but works better in attics as it can be "topped up" as it settles over the years. Also it holds moisture if allowed to get wet and could be a source of mold/mildew if not done properly. 12-18-24" in the attic depending on where you live and 4-6" inches in the walls beats the fiberglass equivalent.

Foam board. Works really good for our purposes as its easy to apply and work with. Products like RMax come with a reflective covering though not as reflective as mylar. I used straight Rmax for an indoor cab, pretty durable and seals great using metal duct tape. I highly recommend it.

An infrared temp gauge available at Radio Shack for around $50 and other places works on the same principle as FLIR, it just gives you a different readout. Say you take one, at night and point it at an outside bedroom wall and you get a reading of 70 degrees. Next room over is a bath and you get a reading of 70 degrees. Then go to the wall that your gear is in and get a reading of 90 degrees then you know you have an issue. If they all read the same then you are invisible to FLIR so to speak.

Keep in mind that this should be done at night and after things have a chance to cool down. If a wall gets direct sun it will be warmer longer than one in the shade. You can also check outside vents the same way to make sure they get equal readings.

I use mine to track stuff inside. I temp the ballasts and all the cords and I also scan the breaker box occasionally. If there is an electrical problem then this is where it will show up first.

google "FLIR Rental". Not cheap.

Are we talking about a cabinet grow or 10,000 Watts???

One idea is to build a room inside of a room with a 6-12" air curtain around the room. With plenty of air circulation, the exterior walls would register as one uniform temp.

But theres tons of variables. In winter, when your whole basement is 80 and your neighbors are 60, whats LEO going to say? Maybe your basement is heated?

I think you are better off ditributing the heat throughout the living area then trying to push it all out through one 6-12" hole

Shoot them down if it is on a UFO and move to a new grow location...don't forget to cover your trails.

If it is on the ground and they have your personal information you are SOL.
Not really, it is really a matter what kind of case it is....if it is in federal court or the local corrupt court......the judge just might hate you enough to have a warrant burn you down

here is what i do, vent out behind your a/c condenser if you have one.
this way if there is an overhead plane using flir, theyll just see the condenser spitting out warm air, which is what it does anyway.
of course in the winter, this is a bit sketch if you live where it snows in winter.

one thing to consider for anybody building a new house to grow in...

look at geothermal heating/cooling units...

they are roughly 3x - 4x as expensive as your normal ac / furnace combo (mainly because of the large copper tubing runs in the ground) BUT they do an awesome job.

Id say get one thats big enough for your house plus 125% of your grow, that way you don't need a mini split, and you could technically just dump the hot air into your unit...

they also save on your elec bill to begin with.

you still have a heat sig from the exchanger unit.

if you are outside in a area that fluctuates climate a lot (as in snows in winter gets hot in summer) just be careful about having that exchanger creating a heat sig during the winter...!

Didn't read anything in the thread but in relation to your question, yes they can see tru lead, lead is a good conductor of heat and would defo show in FLIR. Your probz thinking of something in the lines of X-Ray camera's, Forward looking Infra Red is exactly as it is worded its Infra Red not X-Ray. Just vent well up a chimney down a sewer or cool with an ac and you won't have any probz with FLAIR. If your not getting into any trouble in your personal life, paying all your bills, taking care of the odor, and most importantly KEEPING YOUR MOUTH SHUT you should be fine! I know its hard to not tell anybody about the amazing things your doing in your spare bedroom but it is at up most importance that you say nothing to anybody or you will sacrifice everything you have longed for.
