Can Anyone Figure This One Out?! Deficiency in Flowering Plants?

F

FunkDoctor

Just curious what people might think is the deficiency or problem in these pictures.

they were under a 1000hps flowering and started showing signs of defiencies, even though the soil mixture had lots of organic goodies and they were getting good Super bloom guano teas.

I have had this problem for a while and don't know if it's water quality, Promix/soil mixture or nutrient/ph problems. (Some plants are less affected than others (maybe the less heavy feeding plants?)

The over all problem is the plants turn out smelling and tasting great with great crystal content, but over the curing process they seem to LOSE the taste, potency and smell where it was definitely there at the harvest.

I am thinking maybe a nutrient macro/micro might be building up or locking something out. my water is hard and maybe calcium buildup or lockout?

The problem seemed to increase when I added mylar. I don't think it's heat, always around 78 degrees. Could be possibly the plants are TOO efficient with the mylar? Just sucking up tons of juice?

Thank you for taking the time to read. Any and ALL input/suggestions welcomed and highly appreciated, even if not accurate. I have no clue and it's really frustrating

SOIL:

How long has this problem been going on?

Consistently, some plants affected more than others. Some stay green and healthy, maybe they are feeding less? Others turning yellow with necrotic spots/brown spots (not N defiency) Potentially a regional problem, as I have seen this problem at different locations/different people

What STRAIN are you growing?

all have been affected, some less than others. AK48 for example seems to be less affected, maybe Blueberry too. short, squat indicas seem to be less affected

What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)

seed

What is the age of your plants?

already harvested, problem started showing up around 4th or 5th week of flowering. Some of the plants yellowed dramactically, but not N defiency, just an overall pale/greenish look to plant, when they were deep green/even N heavy possibly, then just yellowed up at week 5 in flowering

How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now?

they were transplanted into 3 gallon containers containing ratio of 3 gallons Pro Mix/perlite/2.5 tablespoons Dolomite Lime/3 Tablespoons Fox Farm Fruit and Flower soil additive (5-6-4 I think, bunch of organic goodies added) Can the Fox Farm make my soil too hot at the rate I am adding? Do my ratios look ok??

How Tall are the plants?

stayed pretty short at 2-3 feet. but it's because they were flowered early. did not seem to get the stretch that I am used to see during the first 2-3 weeks of flowering...low stretch for sure

What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?

flowering

What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)

SCROG

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)

1 gallon in veg, and then transplanting to 3 gallon containers around 2 weeks before flowering. One plant per pot

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)

Promix. 30% perlite added. 3 Gallons Promix with 3 Tablespoons Fox Farm Fruit and Flower soil amendment and 2.5 Tablespoons of Botannica Soil Sweetner Lime. Should I be using more lime? Am I using too much Fox Farm soil amendment? Does Promix suck? ;)

What Nutrient's are you using?

Fox Farm Tiger Bloom through day 21 of flowering.

Day 21 on through flowering used Bat Guano teas (1-10-0). Teas brewed for 48 hours. Liquid Karma and Meta K also supplimented. Was going to suppliment with Botannica Cal/Mag but never did

How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*

3/4-1 teaspoon per gallon FF Tiger bloom every 5 days when watered, only through day 21 flowering. Ph was balanced with Ph pen

At day 21 flowering, switched to a Guano tea. Tea was 3 tablespoons Jamaican Guano per gallon of water, along with about 1/2 teaspoon Liquid Karma and 1/4 teaspoon Meta K. One time watering with GH Kool Bloom powder at just 1/2 teaspoon

No other nutrients added. Is this enough micros? maybe not getting enough cal/mag or Potassium or Phosphorus with this mixture?

How often are you feeding?

I feed with the bat guano teas every 5 days or so. Would give a plain water every 4th watering or so. So really, there is a period of about 10 days with the plain watering where they are getting by on what nutrients they have. Was it possibly during this time period of plain water that defiencies started showing?

It seems to me possible...because yellowing of ENTIRE plant and brown spots on fan leaves seemed to happen around 4-5 weeks into flowering on most plants during the period where they were getting plain water

If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?

pretty much right when the light is switched to 12/12. sometimes I continue to use Fox Farm Big Bloom veg for first 7 days of flowering before switching to Tiger Bloom. Too much N? worried about N toxicity

What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)

Mixing the Guano first, then Liquid Karma, then Meta K. 48 hour bubble. No foam build up from microorganisms though

What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used?

not a clue. never have used one. the best grower I know has never used one ever for soil. should I be concerned?

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?

usually 6.8 to neutral ish, not sure how accurate my testing methods are. Idea of adding dolomite lime being that you can't always be accurate, so it's usually around 7.0 if you added enough. So I typically fertilized with a 6.2 nutrient solution so nutrients are absorbed around 6.2-7.0 range

What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?

Have used both strips and pen, around 6.8 each time

How often are you watering?

Once every 4-5 days usually. Waterings go from dry to moist to dry again, letting the plants dry out. I do not have run off. I am to use low amounts of nutrients/ppm levels that won't allow for much build up in soil when using mostly organics

When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?

feeding every 5 days everytime I water. plain waterings once or twice during flowering (10 days spurts with no nuts/ferts). My watering seems to be ok as the root system is very healthy, large spagetti roots. Could dry pockets cause my symptoms...

What size bulb are you using? 1000w HPS

What is the distance to the canopy? 2.5 feet

What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity)

never above 50%

What is the canopy temperature?

78 to 80 degrees max

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)

80 degrees max in the day, 60 degrees minimum at night. bit of a big jump

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)

Strong Dayton fan blowing air out into attic. So it sucks in air Passivly from other rooms. Big open basement, so CO2 is not really an issue to begin with as a house has a natural air intake/release process. it's not stagnant

Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?

Running most of the time. Have seen the problem when it's been running 100% of the time and when not using at all

Is the fan blowing directly at plants?

across the tops to make plants gently blow in breeze. is this bad? have always heard it stimulates them...

Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?

maybe a little moist, never wet except for day or two after a watering

Is your water HARD or SOFT?

Very HARD from what I understand. Calcium stains on my bathtub I think, red/orange spots collect

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap?
Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?

TAP

Are you using water from a water softener?

No but I wan't one or a reverse osmosis machine. Which should I get? I personally think the problem could lie in the water potentially

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?

pinched 2 weeks before going into flowering. never during flowering obviously

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?

No

Are plant's infected with pest's?

No

2.5 Tablespoons of Botannica Soil Sweetner Lime. Should I be using more lime?

Is that per gallon or for the whole 3 gallons?

Adding lime and then using hard water is a no-no.

Hard water IS liquid lime. Everytime you water you are liming your plants in addition to the lime you originally added.

Also, hard water supplies too much Ca and the original lime you added supplies Ca, together = too much Ca = not good = lockout of K.

Blue Dot- thank you very much for your information. you learn something new everyday, thanks.

oddly enough, I think you might be on to something. yes I would add about 3 tablespoons Lime to 3 gallons of Promix with Fox Farm amendments added...too much with my water possibly huh?

I have experimented with using plain Pro Mix without the lime added, without Fox Farm Fruit Flower added, etc. I seem to maybe remeber having really good luck just using plain Pro Mix without the lime added

but it definitely seems like we have hard water here. bought some test strips at Walmart and it turned up on the Very Hard end of the chart

need to try a run with a Reverse Osmosis countertop system at Lowes for $168. sounds like it will be worth it so don't have to worry about shit water

any other ideas of what might be going on?

F

FunkDoctor

thanks for all suggestions. I will look into Mad Farmer's NUTS. I wonder if it is primarily the fulvic acid that has helped you...

tested the water and it actually came out SOFT. is TOO soft a problem? I had always seen Calcium/red stains and thought water might be a culprite in past. but who knows, maybe not looking like it now...

F

FunkDoctor

can anyone else please give any opinion? thanks! need serious help and would give anything to pinpoint my problem! :(

Maybe try a foliar compost tea with EJ microblast, helps correct micro/sec issues. Do your problem look immobile? Are they usually center in the most lumen intense spots?

F

FunkDoctor

"Are they usually center in the most lumen intense spots?"

absolutely. what would this tell me? thanks

not sure about immobility. seems to be evenly throughout plant, not starting from bottom up. plants went from lush green to a much paler green at 5 weeks flowering and then lots of yellowing and brown spots on leaves/leaves yellowing/browning up but not N def
