Can a female plant be pollinated during veg period?

I have a tent where I am breeding some autos. The tent is 19/5 light/dark. I have a male auto that is about to drop a load of pollen. I also have 4 or 5 Feminized autos in the tent. Great news. Soon, I'll have a ton of auto seeds.

However, I also have some photo clones in the same tent that are about 6 weeks old. All feminized photos (Barney's Farm LSD Ooo la la LOL)

The photos are at 19 hours and not even showing preflower signs yet. I will put them outside to flower in another week or 2 but meanwhile, these plants are going to be subject to male pollen floating all around that tent.

I don't have the facilities to remove or isolate the male. I am just shotgunning the entire tent and hoping for the best. It's my first attempt to get some free auto fem seeds. :)

Anyway, am I in any danger of these feminized LSD photo plants being pollinated?

Thanks

Yes but he said that they are not even preflowering yet, so no pistils to pollinate.

And even if they do make preflowers while the male is in there, it will only be those that get pollinated, with the proper buds remaining seedless.

Can't see the auto male in with the vegging photos being a real problem..

I pollinated a cut of mm x oss that would always hermi but it had wonderful strong terps etc. I pollinated the cutting in veg and hit all of the pre flowers that way I knew the pollen donor was from the male I used instead of itself to try and straighten it out it’s offspring(hopefully some are hermi free.

Even if they will show any pistils soon, you will get pollination just on the preflowers atthe base of the buds, and not in the buds. If that happens, the seeds usually fall from the calaxy alone before harveat time, ifnotthey will be easy to spot and take off. No big risk there!

This is from a seed found in a preflower on a veg plant.

Yes one or two seed won't hurt anything if you missed a pre flower. If your male is just a straight-up male your seeds won't be feminized .your auto females grown from fem seeds are just that ,auto females In order to get fem seeds they must be pollinated by a female that has been forced to pop male flowers (a feet not to easy to accomplish). But I think you should still go for it .The male autos should show plenty early to pull not to crowd the girls out but I don't grow inside so I don't know.I know the auto need big containers from the start

You might want to do a more controlled pollination with a little selection of the females to limit the amount of seeds .You can do this easily with out another light set up. just keep picking off the early male flower buds before they open .wait till a good flush of flowers are about to open and move the plant to another room .Any room or closet will do .I lean the whole plant or top over a sheet of tin foil to collect the pollen , just tap the plant after the flowers open .Roll or pick the flowers that drop out and your ready to paint it on your females with a little paintbrush. I like to cut the pollen with a little flour, just don't have any fans running !.you can always do it again with another male and female selected from the seedlings. Khalifa genetics has a good YouTube video on selecting good males

Thanks gang. I should be OK.

However, I also have an auto in that tent that is in week 9. It only has about 1 more week so I am hoping she is out of there before the sacs open and the male begins dropping.

If he drops pollen and she has to sit in it for a week, I hope I don't end up with a bunch of immature seeds in my buds. I don;t think 1 week is long enough to do any damage. Hopefully, she'll be done before he drops.

Thanks again

The issue won't be while they are in veg, that's pretty safe, esp if you give them a good spray with water before the appearance of pistils. The problem will come from the stray pollen still floating about in the tent.

I am going to try to collect as much pollen as I can. Any tips?

Can I just grab the little sacs just before or just when they open and just put the entire sac in my little glass jar. I can leave the jar open to dry. I can pull the little green stuff out later.

Also, I am not real thrilled about hitting this 8 week auto in late flower with pollen. I may pick any opening sacs off the male for a week and then let him go crazy after I harvest this auto.

Am I right to say I don't want to get the pollen wet with water? Why? Rain wets the pollen doesn't it?

I also read the later pollen is better than the first drop pollen. True? What makes it better? Potency?

One last ?

I want to eventually breed my own feminized auto seeds. Is colloidal silver the only way (other than breeding for hermies). We used to spray watered down aspirin on them.

Been about 4 decades since I did any breeding. Shit has changed. LOL

Thanks for all the help, gang.

Peace

Aspirin is good for ur plants, makes ur plant fight off diseases etc.u could take the auto out and put it in a separate room or cupboard away from the pollen and let it finish in the dark (or a room with normal daylight would do )for a week.its possible if u really don't want it pollinated, water makes pollen unviable but u don't want to put water on a 8 week flowering plant incase of mould.ur auto will be fine for a week,it doest bother about light cycles.76

As far as collecting pollen , like I described before let the flowers open on their own , just isolated the plant and let it drop .use it right away or if you want to store let it dry for a day at room temp, be sure to remove the flowers and debris .store it like seeds, dry in fridge in a jar folded in paper with rice or silica packs in the jar . I believe it's good for alest several weeks in the fridge and a year or more frozen. I strongly suggest isolating the male as I described its not hard and only takes a day or two. You only need the pollen from 5 or 6 flowers to make hundreds of seeds if it spread out properly (cut it with flour) .if you leave that male in there you will have a gazillion seeds

I actually chopped that male today. I was going down the wrong path and didn't know it. I want feminized seeds and I didn't know STS was the way. Somehow, I thought back-breeding was the way??? Not sure where I got that.

So, I chopped that male and I ordered some STS. Should be here in a few days.

Then, I will take all this pollen collecting advice and use it properly. :)

I am starting t agree that just shotgunning with the male might be overkill.

Thanks again for the input.

Peace
