This past year I finally tried growing in the trees. And let me tell you I loved it. Yes, there is more work to do. But i believe the pay is higher. Heres my pros to growing in trees.

I found this video a few days ago while looking for info on Blumat drippers.

lets keep this thread goin.

I had this idea a couple of years ago, I thought fuck it, it probably wont work. My ladies grew fine on the ground, but sheeee-it the slugs ate well that summer! The ladies grew fast, so what the slugs ate didn't matter.

However now I've seen it put into action, it is definitely on the cards.

Great thread Senor_Bueno. Nice You-Tube link Marlo!

Yeah defo keep this thread alive!

Peace all. :tiphat:

these are hand cranked. carry it with you and your water in a backpack, with a piece of tube to run in to your water jug. have the other line camo and attached to the tree so you can just plug in, start cranking. this would only deliver water to a single source though. you could get a manifold to split it - pump water above the highest plant where manifold was, then itll distribute, and evenly at that.

those fuel pumps are like ten bucks, manifold for those lines i found at my local grow store, 8 ports for like $5...

those pumps can handle back pressure if your hand can keep turning. :cathug:

great idea! ive never seen a pump like that before, but that seems very practical.. ill look into local solutions and see what i can find!

i started about 25 seeds tonight, filling up a quarter of my 72 jiffy disk green house! starting this years plants in 3 waves, 1st wave right now.. 2nd in march, and 3rd in may.. this gives the ability to veg my more sativa strains out longer and hopefully harvest with the rest of the crop. im expecting to havest atleast 20 females >.<

i am glad you got that figured out for us,that pump is perfect that looks like a must,i am thinking of useing water crystals ,along with aqua cones, for a three pronged aproach so trips to the site will be cut down, what do you suggest ?

I'm super pumped on growing in trees. So many sheep and deer around here that an adequate spot for growing in the ground is hard to find. (although i will grow in the ground aswell) Went up to the forest yesterday and put up some pots.

Put a 65 litre pot in this huge pine. will put up more later.

Put a 35 litre pot in this tree. Picture taken from the tree with the 65 litre pot. Will put up more here too.

U can see it in the middle of pic. Grey is not a good colour. Must camouflage it better.

It's very good to bring something like this if u plan on putting some pots up:

Treegrowing is new to me, but im very excited about it. Catchya later.

Holy smokes, Bom. That planter is way the fuck up there in that tree. If I didn't see it myself I wouldn't have thought it possible.

With my fear of heights there is no way I'd try a climb like that. Balls of steel. Balls of steel. :tiphat:

tower hobbies is my spot i love rc nitro thats were i get my parts from too ,were im from it is over populated with deer,? should we use the pump to fill a res and let the res water the plants or just water the plants from the ground just looking for pros and cons

i would pump the water to a rez and have the rez distribute the water.. it would be more efficient and also more cost effective (less tubing needed.. as you would have to run a tube from eat pot...)

i feel a paint session coming on!!

my plan goes something like this..

imagine the first word in this sequence as being the highest point on the tree, and each word after.. is continue'ously lowerr on the tree:

rez[2-5g buckets]////plant////plant////plant////plant///

one line would run from the rez buckets.. to the closest plant.. from there it would overflow to the next plant and so on... this would allow you to only have to use 1 line to pump the water up.. and would also control over watering due to heavy rainstorms.. and maybe help contain more water in the system during dry spells?

I think I gotta go looking for a good tree this weekend. SO says I can grow in the attic, but finishing what needs to be done up there will take a long time. Running ducting, new electrical, plumb in a basic sink, clean out, reinsulate, drywall, flooring.... That'll be months. :p

The weather seems freakishly springlike outdoors, but it's still only February. Things in a tree will have less insulating ground around them too. I must have patience.

But I can pick out a likely tree and get the planter all set up. :)

awesome! glad this whole concept is catching some momentum! we should have some nice "experiments" going this summer/fall! cant wait to see what we come up with.

Your watering concept sure looks interesting Trev. I think i will water my plants manually this year though. I live in a very rainy part of the world, so hopefully that will help. The trees i'm putting up pots in are close to my house, so i hope i will get time to water enough.

I have thought about putting a big bucket up in the tree which will catch rainwater. In the bucket one could put nettles and other plants. This water will then be good for fertilizing aswell.

Yes Presto. That is correct. Plants in pots freeze much faster than plants in ground, so the treeplants should be planted kinda late i think.

Dude first off BIG pops to bom for those pictures, fucking gnarly man.
Secondly what do you mean about putting nettles in the bucket?

I am trying to work out the kinks at how best to go about this.. yall have been instrumental in the process. few questions for discussion:

1. I have never used water crystals before, can someone who has chime in if they are worth the trouble?

2. What pot would best keep the roots from baking in the sun? I think grow bags would be nice bc they would conform to the tree, but would a thicker plastic heat the roots less or more?

whichever pot i use im going to hotglue some bark or foliage, maybe moss to it, anyone have a better method or idea?

keep it coming!!

cool.

cool.

Bom, if your close to your plot i would water manually as well, since my plots are several miles from my home, to make a dedicated trip to these plots once a week on a dry season would be an overwhelming task! trying to do "cheap automation" ahaha.

crownedsparrow, i think Bom means compost when he says "nettles and other plants" like clippings... or what not.. all organicc style.

as for the crystals, personal ive never used them.. always heard bad things from the start.. why not just add more natural water holding materials.. like perlite, or vermiculite. Howeverr they might be worth a try? ive never used them so i cant be too biasss.:joint:

i like the idea of growbags, my only problem is..how would you secure them? i wouldnt want to crush the roots with a rope.. with a bucket its rigid with a lip that will keep it from slipping off the rope. >.< EDIT: i just remembered Gantz pic were he uses packing tape it looks like?

Trev, thanks for the watering ideas and that sketch above. One issue, though, is that it looks like the reservoir would drain out too fast. Is there anything stopping the water from running through all the planter 'mini-reservoirs' and out the final outlet? Might work better with those blumat drippers or autopot-style reservoirs.
