California Legalization Bill Introduced

Listen the taxes, number of plants, people moving into the state, changing price and the like are not the real issue........the real issue is that one of our elected officials is actually trying to get the plant legalized and yes taxed when used for commercial purposes.......just the same as many other products!

Now I agree that the bill as currently written is not perfect but at least some of our elected officicals are considering legalizing what for many could potentially be a very expensive battle with the legal system in an effort to stay out of jail if they got caught growing 10 plants under the current set of laws........

They are not going to try to pass a bill that says that anyone over 21 can grow 100 plants because that sounds excessive to alot of people and most likely would not pass when it came time to vote on it......you have to consider the average citizen....the average non-MJ smoking citizen....which is the majority of registered voters.......

Simply the fact that you could grow 10 plants "legally" is what should be focused on and that my friends would simply be a giant step in the right direction.....

According to your SIG.........You already can grow 10. So whats the problem with wanting the State to fuck off?

I say..........Keep it Medical.

That's because I am exactly that. A Medical user. Nothing recreational about it for me............at all. As you can imagine..........many people have different beliefs and mine is that its a medicinal herb and should be prescribed. And it does effect prop 215 by watering it down. What will once have been a prescribed medicine will be made into an everyday........everybody smokes it pass time.

My reasoning says.........Why not make ALL prescription drugs available to the general public? How about Oxycontin? As long as your 21.........you can can buy it over the counter. Lets make it recreational. Its the same thing.

Then there are those that say...........yeah but........You can't make Oxycontin at home so my argument doesn't make sense. I say...........good one !! OK............Lets let everyone make and use Meth. You can make that at home. (but you'll be limited to 10 vials full) It's the same thing.

Keep it Medical.

Whoah there buddy. Got to step in here. You are comparing MJ to a highly addictive/dependent and much more highly dangerous and destructive drug suck as Oxycontin? And your saying its 'the same thing'? Not even close. Just cause your a medical user doesn't make the fact that its a plant and can help people with conditions that states don't recognize for its use just dissipate. So keeping it medical doesn't make sense because say I use it for creative purposes, something I wont get prescription for. You can't take the same approach to every drug because every drug is different and has different effects.

To me your comments are similar those who opposed using MJ in general, medical or not. You have no more right than any of us to use this herb that grows naturally. use it for different reasons is all you do. Saying something is completely natural and organic is extremely different than saying ' you can make it at home'.Marijuana sure as hell should become recreational because its effects are hardly as devastating as drugs such as Oxycontin (not even mentioning those recreation drugs that ARE legal such as tobacco and alcohol) and if you think differently I would tell you what you tell those who oppose medical MJ, educate yourself.

Well I hear what your saying and agree with 99% of it.

I wasn't trying to compare MJ with Oxy-. I was trying to compare the concept of prescription drugs becoming legal. And yes, some people are addicted to MJ although the risk of that is low.

And just to note:
I was once a meth head (15 years without now)............I created the best music I ever created when I was on it. MJ don't even come close to the creativity of hard drugs (I did em all once) so that argument doesn't hold water.

But again.........I hear what you said and most of it makes sense to me.

What the fuck, seriously. This is everything the weed community has always been screaming for, yet here a lot of you are, complaining that the government wants a slice of the cake in turn for legalizing it. You also pay taxes on alcohol, tobacco and food, why make marijuana an exception? If I lived in the US, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to vote yes on this bill, and I just can't understand any smoker who wouldn't, it's a WEED LEGALIZATION BILL for fuck's sake! Are you out of your mind?

Whatever dickhead the guy who is proposing the stupid bill even said he probably would not pass it so F.U.C.K.O.F.F troll...

Sounds like someone here is worried about they're profit margin for his less than legal sales. Like I said in an earlier post, except for the harder to grow, very special environment strains, when this passes, farmer brown who can't make money growing corn or soybeans on his 200+ acres of land is going to quickly monopolize the market.

Put it this way. Anytime you get government involved in anything.........YOU get the shaft.

Barrack Obama is going after Organic farmers. I would bet my life............If California legalizes MJ...........Expect the state to apply the same sort of control he is placing on "Local Veggie Farmers".

If you don't believe it...........your delusional.

could you imagine having the 2011 cannabis cup in SF. The revenue that would be generated would be huge. Never mind the local compition that would happen you talk about fun man.

Well, looks like Amiano accomplished what he set out to do. Give legalization lip service while gaining some name recognition. No doubt most of the un-informed will assume that it was killed by some evil republican, when in fact it was the author himself. I guess those of us that said it would not make it out of committee were right. Gotta love crystal balls.

Yup just like the bill proposed in MA, except there it's a lawyer trying to show everyone what a great attorney and legal mind he is rather than what a great legislator. At least CA's pipe dream law wanted 50 an ounce tax not like lawyer boy's 250 per.

I think I see a pattern here, maybe Amiano is taking his cues from the leader of his party LOL!

Yeah I think I might have said that a time or ten. No crystal balls here, maybe hash balls though! But yeah I am kinda sad that this didn't go farther, it would have been nice to see the argument get pushed more, but the bill did do one important thing, it moved marijuana decriminalization/legalization from a minor issue in politics and the media to a major one. Which has the side effect of greater acceptance of medical cannabis, even the assholes (in the media and dc) for keeping the prohibition of cannabis would agree that medical is ok now. But I am not shocked that it didn't get passed, infact as posted before, I expected this result.
