Was the first one. Maybe a hundred people there. Including Jack Herer, and the dude from High Times (can't remember his name) with long white/grey hair. Was ****ing amazing. Free food and drinks. Lots of munchies (cookies/brownies/etc.). Bag of goodies including a gram+ of each contestant, a nice glass piece, a judges badge, t-shirt, and a rave toy (which confused me at first but then found why later after sampling the strains as I was tripping balls... auditory&visual... my girlfriend leaned over and told me a lawnmower just passed us by lol). Each strain was simply amazing. I made the mistake of taking a break for a couple weeks before the event, and my tolerance is low anyway. I discovered a new level of couchlock, my bladder was on the verge of bursting before I actually got up to go piss lol. I couldn't walk straight... I think I ran into a table... I couldn't even talk lol.
Pico's Poison was the last strain I tried, and the winner of the cup. It cut through every other strains effects and took over.
It's the most motivational, creative, happy, talkative, uncontrollable laughter inspiring high I've experienced. This bud would not let you sit down, you had to go do something, and while completely baked you were completely coherent and functional and social. It had a full body buzz like OG Kush but stronger, more pleasant, almost tingly. It caused mild hallucinations. The smell was pure fruit, not a fruit I've smelled before but the most exotic mouth watering fruit smell I could possibly imagine. The taste was the same, and it lingered in your mouth for a good 2-3 hours after smoking. 4 hits made my entire two story house reek of that indescribably delicious fruit smell which also lingered for hours. The high was simply euphoric. 10's across the board.
It's BY FAR the best strain I've smoked and I haven't seen it or heard a word about it since, been a year now.
I've lived in california all my life and I'd say skip LA totally. there's so much to do there and it takes so long to get around town it'd take up your whole trip. I'd recommend starting out around either santa barbara or pismo beach. make sure to stop in morro bay and check out the ocean front. north of that is big sur and monterey which would be a good place to spent the night. monterey is a good place to get on a boat to go deep sea fishing if you're into that. carmel and pacific grove offer good scenery. sunset beach in monterey is a great place to camp/walk along the beach. la selva and aptos are neat little towns to visit, although some of the beaches are private. capitola, which is right before santa cruz, offers some neat shops and a less crowded beach than sc. santa cruz is a good place to spend a day, although it is mostly aimed towards children. if you go to the boardwalk, be sure to walk out on the pier. as far as the bay goes, stay away from san jose and other inland cities, it's a mess. there's lots to do in sf, but i recommend driving up into the remaining trees and forest in the city, it offers a good viewpoint. north of sf the cities become less dense. you can stop at places like fort bragg and see some neat sights. people will recommend humboldt, although if you don't have the time I would just head straight for the redwood national park. it's a beautiful place to go and a great way to end your trip.
A.N.Other, i agree with the others, start south and head north. if you have the time it's worth it to venture off of hwy 1 and tour through the santa cruz mtns. big basin state park has easy hike trails through big redwoods. there are some cool towns and places to eat, drink local brew or stay along hwy 9. check out boulder creek.
a little farther north take hwy 84 into the town of la honda. apple jack's inn and tavern is a good stop.
autumn is a great time to come. our best weather is in september... nice days and less fog.
thanks for the replies all particular thanks to la resistance (i'm looking forward to those redwoods!) and forty grit (love the sound of apple jack's inn and tavern!) for those detailed responses. i'm going to have to start planning in more detail taking into account all these suggestions.
are there decent (and characterful) motels all along highway 1 or is it always worth checking out the more local routes (?) like 84 and 9 to find more interesting 'off the beaten track places and people?
thanks again everyone for your help, it is massively appreciated!
skip LA???? are u people serious. sunset boulevard, graumans chinese, farmers market and just off the coast it catalina. LA has so much culture and is so much fun. LA has such a bad rep because of hollywood and the media but just ignore all that and come to the city of angels.
i love northern cali too. its absolutely beautiful but LA is a wonderful metropolitan city with tons of things to do. of course its not the ganga capital of cali but its still very cool.
does anyone watch huell howser? i love watching him and i plan on going to as many cali locations as i can. he goes to so many great places all up and down the coast.
If the focus of your trip is driving then I would start up north around the Oregon border, or atleast Arcata and head south. Why? Because then you are driving on the side closest to the ocean, it makes a big difference, to me.
I would start in Sf and end in Astoria, Oregon. Especially if your coming from out of the country to do this. Really make it worth your while. Anything south of Golden Gate is a waste of time. The highway up through the Redwoods is bueatiful then the Oregon Coast is something that cant be missed. It aint nice tropical like beach but it offers A LOT of breath taking views. Lots to do along the way as well. So you can drive it all in one day or as many days as you have. See about gettin a return flight home in Portland, Oregon. Enjoy your trip.
god damn im proud to live in northern cali. santa cruz does have some amazing weed, always got such dense strong dank, huge nugs! and mendo i lived for summer, fuck the weed and lifestyle is too good, you could get trapped, ina good way.
