Calibrating Your Hygrometer

With an analog hygrometer... simply wrap with it up in a wet cloth, put in a ziploc bag, wait an hour, take it out and adjust the needle so it reads 99%. Voila! Your hygrometer is now calibrated.

I remember when I first started growing and wanted everything absolutely perfect I had 4 different hygrometers in my room, both analog and digital, and they all gave me completely different readings! Ranging from 30-75%!!! I hope this tip may help some others in similar situations.

Thx! I'll keep it in mind if I get an analog one, which I might now because it's so easy to makes sure you're on point!

No Prob! I once had 3 different brands of digital meters right next to each other all reading completely different things! Would have made a funny picture, I'll see if I can find them all again.

If thee was a way to calibrate the digi ones they'd be great in order to record highs/lows but I have yet to see one you can adjust. So for now the only thing I trust is a freshly calibrated 9 dollar (canadian) cheap-o old school hygrometer!

I had 3 sunleaves one or some brand, and they were all the same, cheap like $10 bucks and they still work, and I've spilled water on them so many times..

Been using the same digi hygrometer that I've used in all my mushroom grows in a Poor Mans Pod (big sterelite container with two big airstones covered in 3 inches of water, and then 6" of hydroton all hooked up to a huge air pump). That thing pumps 90%-100% humidity depending on what stage I have it operating in.My digi hygrometer has not failed once in 8 years...just needs new batteries from time to time.
