ok guys...I am going to be building a cab or buying one pre-made...what do you guys think is a good idea...I already have a 6" vortex, 400 HPS with bake a round cool tube, and scrubber... what is the cheapest wood to buy to make it out of and still have stability? any ideas? :chin:

How much of a factor is stealth in your decision? A large plywood box sitting there in the room looks pretty out of place.

You might want to consider the Mills Pride series of cabs. They're pretty cheap and with some reinforcement pretty sturdy too.

the C25 is like $80 and the larger one is about $110.

tHE 400w HPS and 6" Vortex are a perfect match for either of the cabs.

I built mine out of 1/2 in. plywood & painted it white inside & out. Probably $100 or a bit less for the basic materials...and then was able to make it the exact dim. to fit my stealth location. That was the most important thing in my situation.

FUCKIN NETSCAPE!! i had a whole post written and i accidently clicked the goddamn close button on the tab....
anyway, do you have a reflector? reason I ask is that the Mill's Pride cabs aren't deep enough to fit most, if not all, commercially made reflectors in the ideal position (with the bulb perpendicular to the front & back panels) So if you do have a relfector I'd suggest doin what Biped said, otherwise I'd go with a Mill's Pride or Walmart/Lowe's/Target knockoff, unless you like to and are decent at building shit with wood, as many of us are. Oh and here's the dimensions of Mill's Pride cabs http://www.millspride.com/assembleinstall/closet_specbook/wardrobe.htm
good luck, and let us know what u end up doing

yes, it has a reflector and cool tube...but I am probably going to upgrade eventually to the 6" polycarbonate cool-tube with internal reflector...

Perfect, if you get the c25, you'll wish it was bigger, from what I read

Exactly. The new line of mills pride cabs are not as deep as the originals (C13 & C22).I am glad I got my C13 when I did.No HD stores in my area had anymore but there was one local store with one left!I asked them to hold it for 15 minutes untill I get there and they did!

I later asked the sales clerk why there were no more and why they were'nt ordering anymore, she told me she didn't know.....two weeks later the ne line pos up (C24 & C25).

I now wish I would have bought the original C22 becuase the C 13 is a little cramping unless using arduous timing pruning and LST'ing. The good thing though is I won't have to buy a C24 to get a bigger footprint as all I have to do is get a 48" wide x 6' tall back wall board and two 2' x 4' boards of melamine and I will have an original C22!!

Go for the larger one if you want more space to work with. The new C22's and the old ones are awesome becuase you can setup a multi stage grow in just one of them.

where'd you find that cooltube, Killa? that looks pretty sweet

I am talking about converting a C13 to a C22.

C13 measures 2' deep by 2.5' wide by 6' tall

C22 measures 2' deep by 4' wide by 6' tall.

All that I would need to buy to complete the conversion/upgrade is one 4' by 8' 3/4" thick sheet of plywood cut to size at HD so finished cut measures 4' by 6'

Two 2' by 4' boards of 3/4" thick melamine, and finally two 2' 3/4" by 6' 3/4" thick mealamine boards for the doors.

Total estimated cost = $50 U.S.
