OK picture update. Been on 24 hour light for several days now. I need to start flowering this landrace sativa before they blow up and overgrow the cab. I wanted to top them but never tried it so I'm letting them go all natural. Switching to 12/12 tomorrow morning.
OK here's an update! I got access to a better camera so no more annoying lines. Theyre growing like crazy! I'm only in like day 4 of flower so I really hope they dont overgrow. I am considering an emergency topping for the big ones (I heard it's possible to top in the first week of flower) I'm also thinking about tying them down but I heard landrace sativas dont like that. What do you guys think about my height situation?
Also... I just got an airstone and pump so I mix up my botanicare liquid karma, veg/bloom with distilled adjust PH and run the air pump in the jug for a half hour then feed them. We'll see how they respond now that the liquid karma and oxygen bubbles get in the mix
I dunno I'd fim the sativa girls and play it safe man. they have a little bit of room to branch out each, but i'd be wary of stretch from a real sativa.
i like your cab and am thinking of making a 400w dwc veg cab so i can place it in the same room i flo in. I think I will probably use a similar cab to yours, but since its just for veg I will probbly not bother with a filter.
thanks for sharing your cab, the lurkers appreciate
well I'm already like 10 days into flower those pics are kind of old I dont think there's much else i can do to train them. how long will my stretch last? its so hard finding info on my strain swazi safari... swaziland sativa -- south african landrace crossed with skunk -- which also has sativas blended in it. my strain is 87% sativa. I know the flower time is 8-11 weeks. I have never seen pics of someone growing this before.
sorry I didnt realize you were already into flo there. well at day 10 its pretty much too late to fim or top. how much have they stretched in the 6 days since those pics? I have had sat stretch for 3 wks from cut, where some ind does maybe 1 wk. I think you will be okay but I'd suggest you start training them, just like you were considering.. I've had to tie down sativas that stretched for only 2 weeks before, and it (power plant) responded well to tying down. If you are concerned about height I dont know much else you can do at this point besides tie them down.
i agree start tying down now, as much as possible imo. looks like theyve stretched a considerable bit and they may have almost 2 weeks of stretching less (possibly less)
you're gonna have a nice thick canopy long as they dont stretch into the light
Yeah theyre definetly a stretchy landrace strain so I will take your advice on tying them down. I have some of that 1/2 inch reel of garden tape will that work or is it too wide? I'm thinking the fishing line would cut off their circulation? Where should I anchor it down? Also.. I have 2 plants which are considerably smaller than the rest maybe I could ditch those and have some extra space?
Just before 12/12 switch...
and now after 11 days...
I can get a couple extra inches if I re-mount the light... if it came down to an absolute emergency I could move the whole shelf up a little but it sounds like a major pain in the ass I dont think I wanna do that. I wish I had enough space to mount the light up top and cut a hole for the light to shine down so I could max out my space... gotta keep everything internal for stealth.
dont use a fishing line. we tie down with cotton kite line and use clear packing tape to anchor it down, because that tape doesnt take any paint off and the kite line is soft enough.
as per where to do it i would suggest tying it down near the top, from maybe the 2nd or 3rd node. gently bend the main stalk as much as you feel comfortable with. start slowly and you might be surprised how far it can bend. then maybe tape the other end of the cloth to the container that girl is in and adjust as needed..
how much further can they go without getting burnt? if you tie them down vigorously and they dont stretch for too much longer hopefully it wont even be an issue
in this case (power plant) we were actually using the line to try to keep her on her feet, she was quite a heiffer. but you get the idea of what i am suggesting w/ the line hopefully.
Thankfully I invested in a really good hood. It stays very cool I'd say they could get away with touching the glass or at least hovering below it. Another thing to consider is that this is a south african strain which likes heat. I guess I will get some cotton string tomorrow and start anchoring them down. Shold I get rid of those 2 runts for the extra space for the side branches to get more light?
hmm I am never for killing girls.. ive had a runt snap out of it in flo and outyield another girl. can we get a side by side pic? if they are really bad runts then id say yea
theyre approximately 4 inches shorter than the rest but still vigorous. they must have been a couple clones which were a day or two behind in rooting. I have them elevated a couple inches above the other pots and havent twisted or pinched either of them. I think youre right... I should definetly go for the extra main colas better than extra popcorn
runts are in the back row 2nd and 3rd from left

YAYYYY THEY STOPPED STRETCHING!!! (I think? lol) It's been 2 days and I didnt notice any more vertical growth... except I saw a huge amount of budsites forming! My favorite part of the grow cycle I did some pretty heavy trimming of the lower branches here's pics...
Now at week 3 of flower. I think I have been doing my watering all wrong. I am going to allow longer drying time between waterings from now on (not used to coco compared to the quick drain soiless I used before) and when I DO water I will completely saturate it until I see water coming out the bottom (also using a lighter PPM of nutrients) hopefully they can grow some deeper roots. Alright some new pics:
