:: C24 400w AirCooled Stealth Cabinet ::

Hey guys this is my first post on ICMAG im a former refugee from Overgrow. I decided to build a fairly large stealthy cab to reduce my need to buy from clubs so I decided to see what Casa De Mojta (Home Depot) had in stock. I picked up a C24 and WOW it was a bitch to get a 200 lb box into my apartment. It took a friend's help and his truck. Home Depot can deliver this for 80 bucks (WEAK... just smoked my friend out for his help).

So yeah I just finished assembling the cab without the middle divider so I have one nice big bloom room :canabis: I considered getting a piece of melamine (sp?) cut for the back but it would have to be 2 pieces so it can be taken apart again... sounded expensive so the carboard is on there right now. I also noticed that this thing is NOT balanced at all and I think the extra weight on the back should help.

So I still have to get that low density foam tape to seal up the doors and i have to cut the ventilation. Im going to mount my 4" 170 CFM fan onto the carbon filter which will be in the upper compartment except where it connects with the fan in the flowering chamber. From there my light will connect with the fan so all the air will be sucked from the top of the cab through the light > fan > filter > passively through top vents. I figure thats the best way to get all the air (even hood/duct leaks) through the filter. Is pushing air through a filter ok?

I have previously grown in rubbermaid tubs using soiless mix and organic nutes which requires alot of watering and attention so does anyone know of soiless mixes that hold water longer? Maybe I could mix potting soil with my soiless mix? How would this affect my nutrients put into the water?

My friend has been trying to convince me not to have multiple plants in one tub because they will compete for nutruients but I told him I prefer the extra soil one big tub allows me compared to lots of small ones... I also believe this allows each plant to stretch roots out further. Who is right?

Whats a good plant count for my C24? I was thinking at least 6 maybe 8. Going to try LST. I will be getting medical clones probably something indica dominant.

Also I want a speed controller for my inline fan... whats the simplest way to achieve this?

Any other comments/suggestions welcome! I will be getting pics up tomorrow!

what up norcal?

heres my cab (c24). you can fit about 20 1 gallon pots in there for SOG or about 5 five gallon pots(youre choice). or 2 18 gallon rubbermaid containers.

Interesting setup dwtc, you simply have your cage fan moutned to the back and actively sucking the air from all cabs?

I noticed there are two white boxes where your ducting leads in the upper portion of the cab, can you better explain this exhaust style for me; just haven't seen anything quite like it :smoker:

Take it easy all :)

thanks. the 2 boxes are where the light is vented. i have 2 four inch fans inside the ducting on either side of the light. in this pic you see 2 round holes on either side of the box. 1 is intake and the other is exaust. the square hole is where the cage fan exaust from.

the boxes are also light traps so no light get in or out. hope this helps,,,dwtc

Ok micro-update... My light isnt coming for several days so I might just get the clones now and put them under my floros. I decided to use Bcuzz coco mix with my original soiless mix (high in perlite) so that it drains slower. I also decided to go with 2 gallon pots... and I noticed 10 of them fit nicely in my cab :)

dwtc did you get that wood backing from home depot? how much was it.

yes. it is 3/4 inch partical board, about 12 dollars a sheet. it makes the cab very sturdy, it won't rock back and forth like it does with just the thin cardbord they give you.i was able to mount my fan to the back wall and use the back for exaust.if you mount youre fan on the back, be sure that you use the 3/4 window seel(foam with peel of sticky)(at home depot). outline youre fan and then attatch youre fan to the back wall, it will reduce noise alot. then when you attatch youre scrubber to the back it muffles the noise even more. also youre scrubber is in the back out of sight,,,,,,dwtc

Sweet ok now I know what im getting from home depot tomorrow :) Hmm I wonder how I can discreetly bring wood sheets into my apartment! :chin: So here's a pic of how I wanted to arrange my equipment. Can I push the air through the filter like that?

Yeah, it'll be fine pushing...just not quite as efficient as pulling through it.

Just haul the wood up in the middle of the night when no-one's awake

it could be done but it would be much more efficient to have the fan blowing out of youre cab. reverse youre fan and scrubber (in youre pic). think of it like this( would you rather PUSH or PULL something uphill)? which is easyer?

The problem I have with pulling air through a filter is that you have to put the filter before the light and fan... then if there's ANY air leaks the filter is defeated. This was a problem with a previous grow this filter was used for (not to mention the filter doesnt work as well when the air is moving too fast anyway). This is why I wish they made inline carbon filters... that would be sooo sick I think I'll make some and sell them on ebay :)

OK I bought some particle board today. I think I will cut an intake hole and just put a diffuser from home depot on it. Do you think that would block light? lol I need help light-proofing my intake (something stealthy, simple, cheap)

biuld a light trap box were youre intake and exaust holes are at. you can biuld them with the left over plywood. all you need are some screws and flat black spraypaint. when you build the box leave one pannel off so you can attach 2 pieces exactly 1/2 the size of the opening you have. screw 1 piece to one side and the other piece to the other side. be sure to put one piece closer to the top and the other towards the bottem.

if you are having trouble with my directions i will take a pannel off of mine and take a pic. onece you see how it is it is a very simple yet effective way of hiding light,,,,,,,dwtc

i remember a guy at OG that did somthin pretty cool. you have already cut holes in the back of youre cab, so heres the sollution to the problem.

take about two 2 x4's and ripp them down the middle(long ways). now you have 2 x 2's(if HD already has them thats alot easier). attatch them to the back of youre cab along the edges . stop just under youre exaust holes at the top. DO NOT PUT ONE AT THE BOTTUM. you need another piece of plywood from HD also. cut the plywood to fit the back of youre cab just bellow youre exaust holes. paint the back of youre cab and the piece of plywood flat black. attatch the plywood to the 2 x 2's. now you have just created a 2 inch fake wall of sorts. the hole left at the bottum is now youre passive intake. i think youre cab is set up just fine for this application.

this should take care of that jesus cab you got :pointlaug ,,,,,,,,,dwtc

I Just put some 4 inch ducting and sealed it up with duct tape... reduces light good enough :) both inlets have really good suction! Now all I need to do is find out how much this strain is going to stretch and then train and flower it accordingly.

For the light cycle I was considering going 18/6 then 12/12 a few days later. Does switching to 12/12 from 24 stress plants unnecesarily? Just wanna have some nice stout bushes :)
