Buying/growing a former grow house?

So I live in med state. I only grow for personal use. 1k. However my numbers are over what the "legal" number is (technically no legal limit but thats another story).

So my friend has a very legitimate job that pays very well and is trying to buy a house. He wants me to pay rent and live in the back house. So I went to go check it out today and I walk in and BOOM!! This place was obviously used as a LARGE grow area. There is two HUGE industrial size ACs in there and it is insulated beyond belief. It was 85+ out today and probably 65 in there with no AC. I mean if I was going big this is exactly how I would do it. Very very impressive. They did it right.

So I walk into the main house garage and there is the smoking gun. About 30-40 1K hps bulbs. My friend doesn't grow and the realtor that was with us doesn't grow so neither one of them picked up on the clues.

So I decide to knock on a few doors and tell the neighbors that I was thinking of buying the house and just wanted to know about the former owners. They say that no one has been living there as far as they know for about a year. But before that some FBI guys came by and were asking questions about the owners. They said they never found out about what..

So obviously the house is hot. Not sure if they actually got busted or moved out, but the house is definitely on the radar.

My question is would you still grow in this house? Like I said, only 1k, but I was hoping to up it to 5k at some time in the future.

blow it the fuck up...sounds like the previous owners/growers got into some problems. don't buy houses with drug money people..but you ain't them and they ain't you, so i'd so blow it up. crazy that they left the 2 a/c's they sound like 5 tons if it was for 30-40 lights. they ain't cheap..

scenariono one... this is how you go to jail because the previous owner grew in the house....

Say you move in, i doubt you would wait very long if at all if you moved in to start up your grow. the fbi do a flyover with a flir camera.. they see your one 1kw hps glowing like a hot coal... they may think, hes starting up, getting clones ready... they come knocking to do a look see, they find your 1k with plants, they are federal investigators and you are in clear violation of federal law. It may not be a fair or right law, but the law none the less. it is up to you if you want to do 5-10 in the oh so comfy sheets of the nearest federal correctional facility. I wouldnt want to knowingly grow in a house that the feds came knocking at for growing pot. Now you may get away with it until you die, idk, but more than likely you will not.

If everyone would just upgrade to led's, and the makers of led's would actually make a product that grew a plant worth a fuck. The feds couldnt come at us anyway, what would they look for? the heat is basically nill, it will not show up on a flir through a house(im assuming)

why does everyone keep saying FBI? FBI usually doesn't do flyovers with flir they got much bigger shit to worry about even at 40kw thats still dea territory.

theres a real good chance that the fbi "incident" had more to do with the peoples other activities other then the grow.

Either way would I be psyched about the former FBI visit? no. But realistically they were after the people who were living at the house at the time and they are clearly gone now so I wouldn't really consider that house "hot" anymore.

If you're in a med state then the feds would have no reason to waste time or resources on the glowing coal of 1000 watts. I would keep it at that and live in the place for a year while you work out the bugs. I spent almost two years at a place and finally was drove outta there by continued issues from the previous tenants criminal records. Not to mention other randoms that tried to poke around, we were lucky. You're going to have to sift through bs for a year or two before you'd be in any position to blow it up safely if that's even what you're after. If you've got a nice big room to work with and your said med state allows like 4 med cards per grow site (no limit on numbers? what state is that!?), then you can construct the "walls" freely to be legal or whatever you need to do where you are. If you're in a legal state and only growing for personal use, they why do more than 1-4 K. Work in to the house gradually until you shake it out for a while! Good Luck~

That's not how FLIR works. It can't see through walls and shit. It can just notice that the *outside* of the house has a lot of hot spots if it's blown up with hot lights. I don't think that even 5k would enough, properly ventilated, to draw worrying heat.

I say blow it up. But for your own peace of mind, start growing trees so you don't have to worry about #'s.

Just to be clear, there was only bulbs in the garage. No other gear. If you weren't a grower you would have no idea that this was a grow set up. Especially since the bulbs were all tucked away in a box..

And I would def be doing 5-6k. I just said 1k because I wanted to see the responses with 1k to be extra paranoid..

As far as FLIR, I live in a large city where there is little to no chance the would be wasting money on shit like that. I live in one of the major medical marijuana growing hubs in CA that also happens to be very populated. Not to mention I don't even think it would pick up 5-6k in there. The actual building is insulated ridiculously and then this is a building within a building insulated even more. Like I said it was a minimum 85 the day we went and it was about 65 inside with no AC.

And I don't think people understand how trivial "med state" really is. Just because it is a med state doesn't mean that you don't have to take the same precautions. Technically the limits in CA have been struck down, but most cops still stick to the 6/12 rule and you will have to go to court with anything over that.. Which means lawyer fees, court dates, lost equipment, etc.. Not to mention trying to explain to your actual job why you are missing all of these random days..

And I don't think it was actually the FBI. I'm sure it was just local cops. I mean there is no sign of them stealing power so I'm sure it was just a knock and talk probably based on a HUGE electricity bill. But people like to make things sound crazy..

My thoughts on it are this:
If a knock and talk was conducted they know that a grow was going on there. Or at least they are reasonably sure. So when the house sells and a few young males somehow buy a house in the nice part of town and move in (all of us have good paying legitimate jobs. The owner especially. but that doesn't matter when it comes to perception) it looks kind of suspicious. Especially since the owner drives a luxury car.

So I feel the thought process might be.. OK we know this house was used for growing before. When the next person moves in lets just do a quick knock and talk and scope it out.. If it is a nice family then we have nothing to worry about..

And like I said, anyone who thinks they can do 5-6k in a med state and have the cops walk in and out has it all twisted. At minimum everything will be confiscated, spend the night in jail, and have a bunch of fees (lawyer, court, etc) before your freedom is given back. And that is best case scenario.

That being said, it really is a hard opportunity to pass up. I mean it is a PROFESSIONALLY built area with not one but two full on 5-10 ton AC units (I would only need one). I mean to build an area this sophisticated would not be worth it to run only 5-6k. But since it is already there... That is why I am looking for the feedback.

Also should mention that I have experience running ops this size so I wouldn't be a clown coming in with no idea of what to do

Honestly I am not sure of that. That was my next step. To find out if the growers were renting or they were the owners. But to put this much time/money into a rental would be pretty dumb/ballsy
