Since they so called "smelled it", it probably will hold up to as far a probable cause goes. BUT, with that, they still have to get a warrant in hand before going in. The knock and announce can just go out the window in this case with the new ruleing the Sup Court put out in i think 2006. The warrant doesnt necessairily have to be on site for an officer to start the search, as long as the judge has signed it they can radio it ahead and begin their searching. Good luck.
