Rinse this Coco! I took the advice of Mosca, and did not rinse....bad idea! I just measured the run off from a new brick, used RO water and it was 750ppm!!! Botonicare was 250 ppm. Now my plants are stressed out from overfeeding. Please do not take anyone's word about how clean a brand of Coco is until you check for yourself. I learned the hard way, now what do I do to my 2 week old plants? The run off was 1350 with nutes...I am not very happy about this. My own fault for not checking, it is my first time using Coco and I was told it was clean. WRONG

I was told not to flush, because they are only 2 weeks old...but I cannot just let it be that high either. Any advice? Thanks

Lowes has a whole Burpee section. They sell vegtable seeds, coco kits and Bricks. Should be right up front by the garden section. Give them a call, but make sure you rinse this Coco! 700ppm run off with RO water.

I just started my C99-BX1 in the Burpee coco pellets that expand. Awesome germination ... plants with first leaves up in three days.

BUT ... now, at about 2-3" tall, they totally stopped growing ... the ends of the first leaves on two are turning brown. No new leaf growth. I am very worried.

I used tap water (well - no chlorine) and kept at 76 deg F and definitely did not over-water. No idea what happened. T-5 lights 4" away.

I just tried a few drops of GH micro, grow, and bloom in a cup of water to see if they need nutes. It's either that or they are all locked up. I went from very excited to hoping that a few make it thru.

Next time, I'm gonna try these ... anyone else try them? "Soil for Life Germination Kit":

Did you pre-rinse? If not, that is why. My bricks were 700ppm, add nutes to that and you can fry your seedlings. That happened to 2 of mine, because I did not rinse. You can rinse it and get the ppm down to Zeroish....then soak in mild nute mixture. I bought some GH Coco Tek and it was 400 ppm. Only took 2 rinses and it was good to go. So far, so good with the GH.

I had 3 plants in Burpee coco, and did not know the ppm was that high. They are growing fast, but had minor problem. Transplanted to clean GH coco the other night, will see how they do. I feed 650 ppm, the run off was 1400 on the Burpee!! Stuf works fine, if you rinse it. I have tested 4 different bricks, Burpee had highest ppm. I do not trust any Coco out the bag anymore. I am new to Coco, but I will always make sure how clean it is before starting.

Did you underfeed, let it dry up too much? What size cups? This seems like a huge factor on seedling health from what I see so far. I start in very small clear cups cut down short, I set this inside another cup that is blacked out. This way I can see the roots by pulling the cups apart. It is a good way to see moisture levels also. Works really good, because you can see it grow and know when it is ready for transplant. My advice would be to transplant into clean, rinsed coco that has been pre charged with nutes. They can be saved. Good luck

Hope you guys are mixing your coco with hydroton expanded clay pebbles, there is no better mix! (I always used like 30% hydroton) Works like a miracle, perfect medium.

I did not. Just soaked the coco coir pellets in water till they expanded. It seems that rinsing would have been a good idea.

I was very very careful not to over water or to let it go entirely dry. After they "popped" and came up - within three days - only applied a little tap water .. till last night. I used very very minimal GH nutes in tap water to see if that would help. Didn't really help as of tonight ... not really hurt either. They are in the Burpee tray in which the coco pellets came.

My advice would be to transplant into clean, rinsed coco that has been pre charged with nutes. They can be saved. Good luck

U think I can just transplant to potting soil? If so, how do I do that without damaging the very new tap-root? Is it just prepare the potting soil by wetting, then make a little hole & gently place the tap-root into it? Or don't try it at all?

Thanks.

Just transplanted the week-old seedlings from coco coir expanded pellets to a mix of potting soil cut with a very little: FFOF, perlite, bat guano, cow manure, neem seed meal, and humic acid. Some had perky little leaves with nice root development, but the others were runts with hardly more than a glorified tap root.

Back under the light at 76 F .... we'll see.

Overnight improvement. Shoulda started them this way. Dunno what it is exactly, but coco coir expanding pellets were not good to my babies. Germinated & sprouted superfast, but thereafter stunted & began to kill. Transition to soil yeilded almost instant improvement. Maybe shoulda flushed, but whatever the reason, I think I'll do it differently next time.

It sounds to me like they stopped growing because they ran out of food.

My lowes is out of them too, they only had them for a little while.

Is it possible to order the bricks in bulk from lowes?
Could I go in and say I need 200 bricks when will you have them for me?

Is it sketchy to order 450 dollars worth of coco from lowes?

Yeah I bought the last of them they had and they never restocked. Even if they did restock I know they wouldn't be getting 200 bricks in. They are cheaper than the cocotek bricks which is the only other thing I can get locally.
Has anyone ever told lowes to order a ton of stuff for them, for anything not just coco bricks?

just look at the name....its like burp and pee together....i would never trust such a brand

Burping and peeing is how I spend most of my nights. Byproduct of my other hobby, I guess.

Do you know how much work that would be? Burpee Coco is salty, so rinse the shit out of it before you use it. I used it on some clones and the runoff was really high. It will work, but I advise rinsing all Coco and pre charging with your nutes. Been burnt by some high EC coco. Good luck
