Rising water deceiving memories
Like laughter in my face.
Cold wind rode high the crests
Broken mast dipping in the drink
Was this afternoon a pleasant breeze
Would I just one more drink.
To brave the cold wet depths of despair
Surrender life’s warm breaths beauty
Choking down that one last swallow
Denying not death it’s duty.
The deep beckoning impatiently
Last sip the salty wine
You should have stayed at home
