It is a mantid. It's a grizzled mantis. The camouflage pattern perfectly matches lichens growing on tree trunks.I'm pretty sure that's a type of mantis. Pretty cool, I've never seen one like that. It's very common for species to have camouflage that looks like a leaf.

Thanks man....certainly not my pet - chameleons occur naturally where i stay...this one is a flapnecked chameleon.
Generally see a few over the course of summer in my garden every year.
