whats the approximate footprint per COB? Wondering how 9 of these babies wired up with a plant under each would do

4.8" x 5.14" or roughly 5" square per Vero 10 with my new fixture.

i'm just going to leave this here...

Hey Bueno,

Just curious what your thoughts are on these screw in les bulbs. I obtained 4 of these for $28.00 14.5w 1500lmns...they arent the most efficient but they are cheap no driver and easy to install. I am putting 4-6 in a 1 sqft space. They kind of compare to the vero 10's @13.9 w just a little less efficient.

Hi Bueno! I've gotta say you are a huge inspiration for me.

I've been reading lots about circuits, power supplies, LEDs, voltage, amps, etc and trying to come up with two lights I'd like to build. Before I purchase the parts, I'm looking for an opinion that my calculations are correct and that these lights will work.

My tent is the Lighthouse Hydro 1.5' x 2.5' x 3', which gives me 3.75sq/ft and I will be growing four plants in a SCRoG style.

Vegetative Light:
- Using Vero 29’s (they run at 37v each)
- 4 of them wired in a parallel circuit
- ~37v needed to run 4 in a parallel circuit (37v per Vero 29)
- Current of 570mA to each LED (2.28A / 4 )(using Mean Well HVG-100-42 rated for 21-42v and 2.28A)
- 2.28A*37v = ~84 watts ( ~21w per LED)
- 84 watts / 3.75 square feet = 22.4w per square foot of grow space

Flowering Light:
- Using Vero 29’s (they run at 37v each)
- 4 of them wired in a parallel circuit
- ~37v needed to run 4 in a parallel circuit (37v per Vero 29)
- Current of 975mA to each LED (3.9A / 4 )(using Mean Well HLG-185H-48 rated for 24-48v and 3.9A)
- 975mA*37v = ~144 watts ( ~36w per LED)
- 144 watts / 3.75 square feet = 38.4w per square foot of grow space

I'll be running each Vero 29 on an Alpine Arctic heat sink/fan combo, which are rated for up to 100w each, so cooling each LED should be easy (21w per heat sink on veg light, 36w per heat sink on the flower light).

One thing I'm stuck on is wiring the fans for the heat sinks. What would you recommend? Series or parallel? How much voltage / amps should they be running at? Any adapters you prefer?

I wish I could edit my above post, but I can't! So... a few more questions.

I actually have two of those Lighthouse Hydro tents and will be running those tents in a perpetual style. Will one 170CFM 4" vortex fan be enough to cool both of those lights running at the same time?

I currently only have one of those tents set up with a 250w HPS and the 4" fan running at full speed. My tent currently runs at 5 degrees above ambient in that configuration.

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks home fry. :)

If your power supply has enough current to run them all, you can run all your alpine 11 fans in parallel on one power supply.

Sounds like a cool plan with those two tents, I used to run one for flowering. Your exhaust fan should be plenty to cool both tents with that setup.

Bueno taking a break? Read this thread front to back and it was amazing. Hope he comes back to drop more cob knowledge. He has honestly set the bar for me on what i should be able to accomplish per watt.

Ive got a nice little indica seed run going again, 3 VGS Pre 98 Bubba S1s, 4 RD OX F2s, and 3 BOG Sour Bubble F2s all at almost a week into 12/12. Hoping for most of them to be females but will have to wait and see. Pics in a few weeks or a month when things start happening more.

Hey BuenoTime. I am preparing for a new setup as soon as I sell and buy a new house. I plan on recreating your 3 cob setup with the red/blue bars. I am having a hard time understanding powering the 3w LEDs. Basically having a problem determining if the driver is suitable. I was also going to order all my LEDs from Stevens however wasn't sure if I should consider getting the deep reds from somewhere else as Stevens doesn't have the Cree brand only luxeon. Any help in this would be incredibly appreciated as I am just bookmarking everything I need so I can have it sent to our new house when we move and I am not lugging it across multiple states.

I've been reading this for some time now. Learning a lot. Thanks. I have a small grow room 1.5' x 2.5' x 48" high. I want to re-light. Been using 6/23 watt FLs on top w/ 2 more on the sides. Want to go COB after reading this. Have built computers so I have HS/fans sitting around. Thinking 2 COB's on 1 dimmable driver (MW).
Going to start with autoflowering strains due to height restrictions. What COB do you think would be right?? Also thinking of using a cat litter box to grow in ~12"x16"x6" to keep height down. Maybe 2 plants in the same container???
New at this but having an absolute blast learning and trying stuff.
You have done the best job I have seen. Thanks for taking your time and sharing your expertise.

Bonjour
@bueno grow I want to thank you because you lead me to the cob tech and now I am so happy with my cxb 3590 3500°k 36V CD...!Amazing efficiency @1400mA and grow nice and big nuggs!
Have a great day Mon Ami!

All have shown sex, all 3 Pre 98 Bubba S1s are females (obviously, being S1s), 3 of 4 OX F2s are females, and 2 of 3 Sour Bubble F2s are females. Last night I put the males in a separate cab to continue flowering for pollen collection. Going to dust a couple bud sites with pollen from each. Also have a mini BlueDigiBerry F2 clone a week behind the others in flower that I plan to hit with some pollen as well.

Hey ECLIPSE - I have similar grow room size restrictions.
I ve been getting by fine. Autos and photos- although indica leaning autos make getting a feel for things a bit less fraught. two times one foot by one foot squaRE fabris pos at best or two plants in a cat tra or rubbermaid or tupperware- whatever you can get your paws on that fits snug- it takes to maximise the amount of soil you can fit into ten inches max depth I reckon(still plenty soil!)
I havent yet done it but am considering putting my lights in corners and centre of grow zone- more lights but under run power wise to give a more even efficient spread of light. thats all I ve to rant about just now- blame the martian mean green - sorry
PS LST essential

Thanks guys.

The 3 on left side are the VGS S1s, 3 in middle are OX F2s, 2 on right side center and back corner are the SB F2s, front right is a mini BDB F2 #2 clone that I tossed in a solo cup to hit with some OX and SB pollen. This pheno is very berry smelling, looks beautiful in flower, very frosty also but needs extra indica punch to be a real special smoke to me. Maybe I can make that happen with a little work, a very blueberry kushy indica dominant high pheno would be almost a holy grail type cut to me. The OX has Blue Moonshine in it so I feel it may be a good candidate for this project, I really enjoy the indica stone of the OX, SB also has kushy strong indica power to bring to the table I feel.

Still have lots (32?) of the BDB F2s and the Carolina BDB F2s I haven't touched yet.
