Bueno Grows w/ DIY COB LEDs

Thanks or the input on the Alpine 11, much appreciated. Another cool thing about using computer cooling stuff is that it's designed to dissipate heat in a small confined area, so I would imagine that using them in a larger (relatively) area like a grow would only make them more efficient.

That guys setup is awesome, especially since it's a DIY style water cooler. I was thinking something more along the lines of the Cooler Master Seidon (http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/seidon/seidon-120v/). But at $50 or 5x the price of the Alpine I don't know that it would be worth the additional performance unless you had some really nice COB's that you wanted to keep safe and cool.

That Cooler Master looks pretty neat. I would say its not worth the extra cost over the Alpine 11 Plus unless you were running the COB real hard (higher amperage). The Alpine 11 Plus keeps my 3070s @ 1.4A running pretty cool, heatsink isnt very warm to the touch, never measured actual temp with IR thermometer or thermocouple though.

But if you really wan to use a water cooled CPU cooler, dont let me stop you from trying it. It is a pretty neat concept.

Couple crispy spots on a few leaves from being too close to the COB in the veg tent.

Figured out a bit better system for hanging the modules in the tent.

Took a piece of scrap wood from the garage and cut it to length. Drilled 3 1/4" holes in each end and 6 1/4" holes in the center, these were drilled to run zip ties through the 1/4" holes. Then I measured and marked off from 4-12" in 1/2" increments from each end and drilled a pilot hole at the center of each 1/2" line. These are the markings and holes I can use to adjust the distance of the COB modules from each other and from the sides of the tent. The wood mounting rail (we will call it) is centered in the tent front to back.

Using small screw in hooks I can move to adjust the COBs side to side and I had picked up some #16 jack chain that is easily made to length and adjusted for height adjustments and also I could tilt the COBs at an angle if I ever needed to for any reason by having the chains shorter or longer on one side or the other. Pretty simple.

Still wanting to route the wiring better. Thinking of an idea for that now.

Thanks Bude, always good to know people are watching and enjoying.

Some from last night Day 11. They grew about 2" in a day or day and a half, hopefully they slow down vertical growth otherwise I might have to throw the SCROG screen in and smash them down a little. I want to be able to keep the COBs at a near optimal distance to the canopy and not have them grow up too tall like in the veg tent.

Very nice canopy you got there. :tiphat:

those thing are amazing B i'm imagining them mounted on the walls and ceiling :)

Thanks for stopping by guys.

That would be an awesome grow to surround a big bush (or even multiple plants) on the top and all around the sides with COB modules.

The plants seem to be loving these COBs. Looks like they are starting to flower a little faster than last run and the stems are a lot stronger and woodier than they have been my past couple runs, less stretch (so far), not sure if thats because of the different spectrum, more light intensity, or the breeze from the heatsink fans causing the stems to stiffen. Either way its going great so far as long as they dont get too much taller this run should turn out good.

There is a guy on RIU who made 4 light rails with 4 COBs on each rail. 16 of these modules would do some amazing things in a larger area...

I can refer you to some threads that have tons of technical information talked about and explained.

This where I need to go. I have no issues with fabrication, I fail where it comes to matching LED's to drivers. Please if possible post links to threads that explain the proper procedure for matching components, thank you.

Well I had been keeping a close eye on the OGSWTs, they had some odd growth patterns at the nodes, well they were both genetic hermies showing male and female parts so they both got chopped tonight. Must be the s1 female used in the cross, not sure but Im throwing out all 2-300 seeds of the OG s1 x SWT#4 IBL. No time for bullshit.

Now there are only 4 left in the tent all females. 3 Blackberry Kush x Chemmy Jones (BBCJ) and one Pineapple Express x Cheese n Chaze (PECC). Canopy is kind of weak now, not as full as I like to try to have it to take advantage of all the square footage. Oh well we will see what happens now. Might not be so bad now the 4 left are less cramped and more airflow around them.

Moved the 4 in towards the center of the tent and moved each COB module 1" toward the center, so the COBs are now 2" closer together to overlap lighting more in the center and not waste as much off the the sides where there is no canopy anymore.

And whats left. Blackberry Jones' on left and front, Cheesy Pineapple Haze in back right.

I actually dont know a link on matching LEDs to drivers but if I come across one Ill definitely put a link up.

OOOO yea, i will be watching this one!!! i cant WAIT till i make my COB system!

Nice, which COBs are you going with?

If you throw them away, send them into my trashcan??? lol!!!! OR DONT throw them and FEM them with the silver method!!! <--- fem the seeds unless u already did

And im getting the http://www.digikey.com/product-deta...0N00V427F/CXA3050-0000-000N00V427F-ND/4009921 CXA3050 2700k with a Meanwell CEN 100-42 http://www.powergatellc.com/mean-well-cen-100-power-supply.html

im a bag seed grower (with a few GOOD seeds on hand) and iv noticed i still get decent nug from it all! i Cut the entire stem thats hermi and am usually left with wierd skirted buds. but thats just me, ill smoke a male if i have to :/

Last night I switched the two plants on one side to the other. Since one COB is a Z4 and one is a Z2, I figured to be fair to them all they should have nearly equal time under each even though the difference isnt that great between the two.

Tonight I snapped a couple pics after watering.

Day 18 12/12 they are starting bud formation fast this run :) Looking pretty good, wish the canopy was full, but we'll see how this turns out with ~2/3 canopy.
