Buds haven't turned out well this time..

For this grow, I tried placing the lights as close to the plants as possible for maximum light.

For some reason, the yield has become lower instead of higher.

Only other thing I did different was up the nutrients (Bio-Bloom) a bit.

And we had a bout of spidermites which we got rid of using Neem Oil.

What do you guys think?

Did you use fan blowing the hot air away from the tops? they might had some heat issues. Without cooltubes, basic lights make lot of too hot air for plants, so you have to have very good ventilation and a fan pushing the hor air from the buds.

I have air-conditioned Cooltubes.

It's about radiant heat. You'll probably notice less aroma/flavor because it causes terpenes to evaporate. I try to get my lights up high for the last 3 weeks. Good luck. -granger

Not too bad lookin considering the mites and all. I've noticed too, towards the end, mine don't need all that light too close. Were you adjusting pH of nute solution before you fed?

Those plants had serious damage from mites. This is for sure a reason for a lower and less quality harvest.

About light. There are two main things, the first is internal temperature and the plant's capacity to cool down.
If the light source is near, leaves get more heat by radiations (photons) and thermal energy mediated by air. In the need to cool down, the plant develop worse flowers.
The second thing is called photorespiration, and it is a biological defense mechanism that lead to a lower yield. You can recognize it, it is pretty simple. Yellowing upper leaves, withish new growth in correspondence of ''hot spots''.

These two factors, higher internal temperature and photorespiration would be the mainly responsables for a lower yield using more light.

However, as I wrote before, in your case I see big damages from mites and I bet this is the why. Destroy'em with several acaricides, never use the same repeatdly. Be sure to clean and treat everything in the area or they'll come back.

Luck bro
