I run 5 gallon black buckets. The botton bucket has a 3\4inch drain placed 2.5 inches from the bottom of the bucket. Inside the bottom bucket is a sturdy 1 gallon bucket with 1\4inch soaker hose braided though the drain holes of the 1 gallon bucket. I run solid plastic lines from the soaker hoses outside of the buckets so that the roots do not constrict the air lines(don't use the flexible\rubber air lines or this will happen) The top bucket sits on the 1 gallon bucket and is drilled with a 1\4inch drill bit on the bottom of the bucket and 7 inches up the side of the top bucket. Drill alot of holes. I do not use hydrotron being it can not hold the weight of larger plants. Instead I use large lava rock.......The true freedom bucket.
Father Time, I will take some pictures of some old buckets I have laying around tonight. Pictures are worth a thousand words. I just started a freedom bucket grow. Check it out in the indoor hydro forum.

Right,

before i start, please excuse the bad spelling and grammer,i spent no time at school those many years ago, opting to spend the days in the bush hunting and growing pot. :joint:

so i have ordered 8inch net pots thay are going in the lids
i have also decided not use the Air line Bubbler for this grow and it has been put on the back burner until the new bigger room is finished.

I have happily adopted the "00420" - "So Quick" grow methord for this run,and i will run the 2 styles side by side once big room is compleate for comparsimum. :lurk:

i was also not happy with the sealent i used to fit the 1/2inch drain bungs so went out and followed Big Tokes Tread and bought a Hot Glue Gun. (great advise :joint: )

so i rounded up a few tools. (drill not in shot) and away i go.

I drilled ramaining buckets ready for drain plugs to be fitted.

the glue gun is a god send, enabling one to use it as you would a welder and basicly weld a hot bead of glue around the darin plugs.

i again re-thouoght my plugs and upon seeking advice from the talented 00420 i decided to get a wood chizel and remove all the 1/2 inch (13mm) plugs.

i then proceeded to refit all the buckets again, this time with 3/4 inch T-Pices this will keep drain lines up tight against the buckets and leaveing me (hopefully) with a clutter free room floor.(19mm)

as well as increaseing the "Dump-Flow Rate". :woohoo:

so i have dummy-run the Drainer Lines and cut to room lenght, next step is to fit "End Plug's"

Fitted the end plugs on the drainer lines.

now time to for a change have started on the main Nutes Res (53 gallon) unfortunatly ther is no lid avibable for these tanks so,i had to construct one out of Poly sheeting strips and once again get the Hot Glue Gun into action.(this Glue Gun is now my faveriot tool)

this is t a shot of glueing the 2 pices of Poly sheeting tougeather to make the lid for the Res.

compleated lid,Glued/welded bouth sides.

and of corse the final fit.

Hi there Father time, ....
looks like your 1st dip in the "water", your diving right in at the deep end too with all those buckets eh..... Good on ya mate. I was very intimidated by hydro when i 1st started playing, but i finished my 1st hydro buds not so long ago and im totally over that now....wanting to build and try just anout every system i vcan now(once im back up and running, Grrrr)
Be careful relying on the glue gun for sealing things.... a lot of them state in the instuctions that it wont be totally reliable where anything will be in regular contact with/immersed in water.... i sprung a leak a couple of months back with it after runnng the bubbler for about 6 weeks..... I found some good stuff though, its an epoxy resin compound, but instead of 2 tubes, you get it in a cylindrical lump of putty which has both parts of the epoxy , one part in the middle(i assume this is the hardener) and the other part wrapped around it protecting the inner part from the air.... anyway you chop a bit off, and roll it in ur hands, knead it together until its all evenly mixed together, it gets warm, then you use it once its nice and pliable, and work it right into the cracks.... it works well, it cures white goes rock hard....
Well anyway mate, you got all the help you needif 00420 is on the case for you so this should rock when its up and running....
Happy hydro
Be lucky mate

bit more done.

bit more done.

Hi,
Kinda a slow morning today, bad back pain has slowed up construction, and only got a bit doan on the main Res.

and as you can see i could not even be bothered to edit FT logo to pic's... :puppydoge

i welded/hot glued/fitted the drain plug fittings to the base.

also welded (yes the hot glue gun again) the case for the pump as well as fittings for bubbler line and screwed the air pump to side. (2 sec's :bat: )

for my next step i'll hot glue some bits toughter to make the duel feeder lines for the 1/2 ince out of the 3/4 inch.

feeder line compleate.
she looks a bit shitty welding, but is totally sealed, hence the over abundance of hot glue stuck to it.hehehehe.

watch this space,FT

G'Day Mates,
i'v finallly gotten the 8 inch net pots and fitted them to the buckets.

the lines have been run and everything is in lpace for the systems first wt test run, checking for leaks ect...

i have checked the nute feed presuse at both the frount and back bucket on bouth sides and thay are exactually the same preasure.

i did not fit lid to main res nor filled it up compleatly, just enough to get good dead water preasure to check for leaks ect...

after identifying all leaks ( yes 00420 i canhere you laughing :pointlaug )i then powered up the air line bubbler to make sure i was airateing the water enough.

i must also add, bouth the air bubbler and the water pump thenselfs are totally quiet i cannot hear them over the radio turned down quitley in the corner! :woohoo:

all worked fin so them useing the pump itself i ran a 10m dump/drain 3/4 drain line off it and out into the yard,i was extreamly happy with presure at the end of the line!

weill keep everyone posted as to the progress tommorow.
Kindest Regards,FT

Father,
I like to keep it simple, getting to technical means more chances of things to go wrong.

Heres my favroite setup using DWC bubbler.
I use 10 gallon rubbermaids and thats it.
i fill it with 10 gallons of water (a lot of room for roots) i cut a few holes in the lid that comes with it, (i dont know why the dude above had to rig his own lid). I set some netted pots in the holes i cut in the lid and presto your done. Keep the water level enough to touch the netted pots until the roots go threw the pots, then keep the water level at half inch to an inch away from the pots. cause i know the bubbles popping on the surface splashing that little bit of water on the roots is good. i duct tape an "airstone" to the bottom of the rubbermaid and lately iv been throwing in a small water pump/circulater just to spin the water inside the rubbermaid. I get a giant root ball. I never get any signs of over nueting. using rubbermaids saves space cause they are square and not circles. rubbermaids usually come in dark colors and have a small hole in the handles so you can run airlines threw, so no holes. they are like at most $5 and you can throw 4 females in 1 rubbermaid. I usually use rockwool cause im close to a hydro store but the berries work fine, i just see a little white mold towards the end of the grow, but nothing a spray of hydrogen peroxide cant fix. I Never change the water, i just add clear water most of the time and some nutes premixed in a gallon of water(tea) and clear water towards the end. Ill get back to you with some pictures. keep it simple
