A reconstructive Ear,Nose & Throat surgeon did the exploratory surgery this afternoon and it looks as if it really wasn't this kids time to go.
Aside from the cosmetic damage it appears that everything else, physically, can be fixed. They are concerned about his pituitary gland and are running further tests.
They closed a tracheotomy that he was given at the scene, but left the remaining wounds open for fear of infection. He is still in a coma, but all of his vitals seem to be holding steady.
We're cautiously optimistic.
Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers...I just want him home, we'll work out the rest.
Firstly I'd like to say how appreciative I am for the out-pouring of support and love that you all have and continue to send our way.
We had a setback after Christopher's first reconstructive surgery in the form of pneumonia, and potentially TB, which they are being exposed to in Afghanistan.
In light of these circumstances he's been put back on the ventilator to keep his lungs fully inflated, his O2 sat levels have been extremely low.
We're taking things day by day and praying for the best possible outcome.
It's been rough and when I'm feeling down I've been revisiting this thread & the WellWishes forum for strength and encouragement from you all...for that I'll be eternally grateful.
