It wouldn't surprise me Ted - probably a prime job - for some stuck-up sticky-beak of a copper - doing the security on everyone else's homeland - but their own - compiling their international 'list of deplorables' -

Well, that's bad news Gypsy. You can bet London to a brick that you won't get a visa today either! (In fact the Aust gov probably has you on some sort of shared list compiled by the US Dept of International Fear!)

Ok so still I have time to get in trouble. Last night in California, I have a criminal record, drugs, and still they let me in here. But I didnt tell them this when I did all the esta apps and such but back home it still makes my life difficult regardless of the fact that it shouldnt after 5 or 10 years have passed and its been what, 14 years since the customs came to my home... So.. It must be a trap. I probably have to take a bus north and ask for a job at some nice small farm and get married to a backwoods woman.

It must have been around 1985 - when I applied for a visa to Australia - I had an Aussie mate I'd met in Thailand - and he was a prawn fisherman - so he invited me down for banana prawn fishing season - to work on his boat - out of Cairns -

Like a mug - I was honest on my visa application - and told them that I had done 30 days in jail for 'illegal importation of a controlled substance' (hash) - since they were asking if I had any form - and there is me thinking that most Australians must have a bit of form - or are the families of convicts - since Australia used to be a penal colony for the British - So me doing a month for a bit of hash was nothing -

VISA REFUSED - so I never made it to banana prawn fishing season -

When I flew in through Brisbane this last spring, an Aussie immigration fellow raised an eye-brow as to why I was headed first to Nimbin.

Only reason I put down Nimbin was I didn't want it to conflict with my DHS form I'd filled out a month or so earlier, in which I'd stated Nimbin Hotel was my first stop. Didn't even stay at the Nimbin Hotel.

So the young-enough-to-be-enlightened officer in Brisbane asks, "What brings you to Nimbin?"

Me: "I've read it's a counter--cultural arts center of sorts."

Officer: (Frustrated after trying to make me say something incriminating, including asking me if the 'medications' I checked affirmative for on my entry/declaration form included medical cannabis... with me thinking about saying "No, I smoke that for fun!") states, "Well, Nimbin is known for some other things, as well."

Me: "Really?"

Aussie Immigration dude: (now more frustrated for my poker face).. "Well, Nimbin is also known for DRUGS."

Me: "Really?! I guess that goes hand-in-hand with the whole counter-cultural arts center thing, doesn't it?"

I later told another that if Nimbin is viewed as being THAT dangerous, by virtue of that whole peace, love, communal living .... stuff, maybe they needed to barricade the place; no one in, no one out, and do air-drops every couple weeks for staple goods, until this whole communal perspective and peace and love quest dies of attrition.

THEN the world might be a safer place!!

Well - at least my home country lets me live here - when I was locked up in immigration detention for years - I met a few blokes who were 'stateless' - they had no valid - un-fake documentation/passport - and no country claimed them as their citizens - so they were caught in a sort of immigration limbo - some detained for 10 years or more - most try and get the United Nations to help them out - but few succeed -

I don't get it. Since when do we care about laws. If we gave a fuck about the laws, we wouldn't have been growing for the past 50 years. LMAO

Mainstream media MUST keep you frightened.

..

I see your point, but consider this. When you find yourself behind bars because of this plant, which I have, or in this case deported from your country, then we all should care deeply about the laws surrounding it.

Criminy!! What a crazy world we live in!!!

Neil Young had a certain birthday present in mind this year: United States citizenship.

Everything seemed to be in place for him to take his oath on Tuesday, his 74th birthday, the Canadian singer told The Los Angeles Times last month. Amid what he called a “climate emergency,” he was looking forward to voting in the 2020 presidential election.

But Young’s marijuana use, something he has been open about for years, may stand in the way.

In general, someone applying for citizenship risks failing the government’s “good moral character” test if he illegally uses drugs. In April, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services clarified its policies, saying that applicants “involved in certain marijuana related activities” — even in states where the drug is legal, like Young’s current residence of California — may lack good moral character since marijuana use remains, in most instances, illegal under federal law.

- I can't wait for a standing U.S. President to offer adult visitors to the White House some fine home-grown cannabis - along with a glass of good local wine - That'll Be The Day!

Instead of Brandy and Cigars - It'll be Napa Champers and Wedding Cake ('erb) -

*Ben Franklyn and George Washington were tokers - so it could be explained as reintroducing an old cultural practice -

The Commonwealth Minister for Immigration used to be a Copper. First State then Federal. A route into politics? OMG!

The word around is that his fellow Federal coppers would quietly surprise him with tins of dog food opened on his desk.

Deletion. Double post. Took ages to render on this page so I wrote again. Thought the Feds had got me for a moment!

Any instances of that coming to fruition? Their federal law overriding state laws argument makes sense, but I just dont see any possible situation where a foreign person using it in a legal state would rise to the level involving federal prosecution.

Yeah, well the issue is federal vs state.....even a US Citizen can be arrested under federal law for using/possession of cannabis, in a legal state....crazy, but true.

Now, the Feds might not want the hassle with arresting a US citizen, but a foreigner?....you bet.....they will crucify a foreigner!

Years ago, before the computer age, that worked pretty good, Bud.

Now'days, if they catch you lying to them, it only ups the ante.

My arrests occurred as a juvenile in a State that sealed records of minors if they stayed clear of trouble by their 17th/18th birthday, depending on severity of crime. I had numerous arrests for larger quantities of drugs, to include 1-1/2 lbs of ditch weed and some 'mescaline' that was really acid (74 tabs), some syringes they libeled me on (causing that charge to vanish from the report), and a minor amount of plants in cultivation. Numerous arrests over time.

At 15 the LEOs told half-truths in a preliminary hearing (or 2), trying to waive me to an adult prison system, but the Judge wasn't having it, and I represented myself, pointing out the holes in their arguments, evidence, and other issues.. repeatedly.

I left there at age 16, and despite very close calls years later, and what was a penchant for high-risk, potentially self-destructive behavior, I never got popped again.

Because of my records in that State being sealed, you might be surprised at the licenses & permits I've held without anyone knowing any better. Same for crossing borders.

I was very fortunate, in retrospect.

Like I sorta' said, these days, post-computer age, the saying used to be "a radio is faster than a bullet" back in the old days. Now it ought to be "a computer is faster than a radio."

And Post-9/11, many countries crime-related data bases are shared.

I've joked with Canada Customs sometimes, telling them all of my family are dead, and can they please tell me what time of day I was born, as I want to have a star chart done. Canada Customs often has a much better sense of humor than our side. :)

I don't know that Neil Young's been popped recently, though I suspect that years ago he may have been (up in Laurel Canyon, to be exact), but I suspect his stance on weed, and his openness about his politics and personal use, are sufficient to have them tell him he's persona non grata. They don't need any convictions, they just need you to admit to something they find unpalatable.

But it's ALWAYS a serious risk to bluff about something they can dredge up with the push of a button these days.

I was going to ask how you had managed to get in... My granddaughter is bugging me to take her to cali, I'd love to go but weren't sure if they would allow me in...

So I just bullshit on the form

With all the crazy shit that's gone down throughout the world in the past 2 decades I'm still in disbelief they even have the time and resources to worry about the herb. There's some seriously wicked people trying to pull some real shit and they're still out trying to catch stoners over some bullshit that even they know is of no threat. Quit fucking around with a plant that heals and saves lives and fix this damn smack problem. Popping a few terrorists and drug cartels would be nice too. But of course, we all know what the war on drugs is really about... As the saying goes, you never kill a cash cow....
