Britons who legally smoke cannabis in the US 'risk being deported'

“A legal expert at an international immigration firm has warned British tourists and employees that if they smoke marijuana in the US, even in states where it has been legalised, they risk being barred from the country for life.

UK visitors can still be arrested and deported from the US even if they consume cannabis in states such as California and Colorado, where the drug is legal, said Charlotte Slocombe, a senior partner at Fragomen in London.“

I’ve got to say this is a little off. The title refers only to people from the U.K. but I think it refers to everyone who isn’t a US citizen.

I don't get it. Since when do we care about laws. If we gave a fuck about the laws, we wouldn't have been growing for the past 50 years. LMAO

Mainstream media MUST keep you frightened.

Any instances of that coming to fruition? Their federal law overriding state laws argument makes sense, but I just dont see any possible situation where a foreign person using it in a legal state would rise to the level involving federal prosecution.

We have seen bus loads of middle-aged and older has-been UK celebrities go on cannabis road-trips around California and Colorado - in the last few years - making UK T.V. documentaries about their cannabis 'experience' - getting loaded and doing whities etc on USA grown 'erb - Seems to be helping the local economy - and generally everyone is having a good time - I can't see the point of stopping that -

Does this mean Britons can only get a one-way flight and get the US and A to pay the return flight home?

Borat would say it's a Great Success and give a Hi-Five to Premier Bush.

Neil Young's (Canadian to American/USA) immigration status is currently reported to be held up due to his 'cannabis-related activity.'

How broad a field is 'cannabis-related activity'? Sounds like more than just imbibing, based on the words used reporting the story.

Limited supply of Doritos in the Country? Fear of a cheeseburger shortage resulting from pot heads immigrating to the U.S.?

We now create things to be concerned with. And there's money (and proud nationalist chest-puffing) in it.

Edit: As I understand it, Neil's home is in California, a weed-legal State, located in a Draconian (pretending to be 'free') Country, where weed and many other things are concerned.

Because you may well be abroad but as a citizen of country X, Y, Z you are subject to your laws, not the countries you are visiting.

In Canada it is lawful to consume legally across the country. That being said, it is quite clear as well that, consumption and personal possession ends at the border.

The US isn't barbaric but, try pulling that shit in Saudi Arabia and some other countries and see how you make out!

Maybe I'll get a free home return - next time I try and visit the USA?

They might even try and get me to stay in one of their very secure federal resorts - as a guest - since most all of my life has been a 'cannabis related activity' -

Probably best not to even try and go there - I'm free here - so why go there?

You think that's bad? In the wonderful Land of Oz a body can be returned to his/her country of origin if the present government decides s/he's criminal enough.

The most tragic circumstance I know of was a guy who had come here as a child but who had not become a citizen. So when he got busted a few times for petty crime and using Smack they sent him back to Croatia even tho he didn't speak the language, had no relations and knew no one. He was in his 60's! A real public enemy.

So there's this homeless penniless bum in Croatia who hasn't the language even ask for help. How compassionate is our government not?

(The gov also sends back New Zealanders who've got a bit of form even tho' they live quiet.)

Xenophobia? You bet!

It must have been around 1985 - when I applied for a visa to Australia - I had an Aussie mate I'd met in Thailand - and he was a prawn fisherman - so he invited me down for banana prawn fishing season - to work on his boat - out of Cairns -

Like a mug - I was honest on my visa application - and told them that I had done 30 days in jail for 'illegal importation of a controlled substance' (hash) - since they were asking if I had any form - and there is me thinking that most Australians must have a bit of form - or are the families of convicts - since Australia used to be a penal colony for the British - So me doing a month for a bit of hash was nothing -

VISA REFUSED - so I never made it to banana prawn fishing season -

Well, that's bad news Gypsy. You can bet London to a brick that you won't get a visa today either! (In fact the Aust gov probably has you on some sort of shared list compiled by the US Dept of International Fear!)
