Breeding and PM

have a buddy who has cuts with PM.. i was supposed to grab them this week but he found PM... hes donating some genetics to me so we can play around with some seed making..

wondering.. if i just use atak on the pm clones.. and get them nice and healthy and everything.. does PM affect breeding?

or will i just need to be reminded that some of the genetics will now be more likely to get PM?

hows that work?

and just to be clear.. i don't have anything but a few gnats at the moment..

no bugs. no pm. no rots.. nada..

so I'm trying to keep it that way..

i read that pm infects tissue. .then others say it doesn't.. other say that if u breed a plant that has pm. the seeds will automatically have pm..

i just want the genetics.. not the PM lol. .and i wanted ot make some seeds to have a nice phenohunt between me and a few friends till we find the one we think is best and then we can all trade and have a few things that no1 else has ..

I would say avoid the clones like the plague.I don't see how pm could be passed to a seed, but it definitely infect anything around it and probably hang around the grow room.

sucks... because a few of the cuts are shit i really wanted to cross the glue or chem91 with . phenohunting is wat I'm really trying to do again

There are very effective measures against PM. I would't discard anything good.

Yep. Scrub and scrub. Anything I'm going to smoke I don't want residue from PM or the chemicals to eradicate it.

Powdery Mildew is a fungus. The spores float around all the time but they won't every do anything or take hold unless plants are sick and/or stressed out. If they are fire cuts and you don't want to see them go then take them and treat them accordingly in quarantine. Don't use any chems or cop out fungicides like Eagle 20. Maybe pick up a product called green cure and use that to take care of the visible signs of it for now. In the mean time focus on getting the environment right and getting the cuts back to being healthy.

I don't see how PM could be transmitted to the seeds anyways but I wouldn't want to start breeding with sickly plants as you won't likely get the results you're looking for (numerous healthy seeds)

I absolutely could see PM being passed on by seeds. I use some dust on my seeds which includes spore from desirable mycorrhizal fungi. Fungal spores are much smaller than a trichome, if your seed came out of a sticky, moldy flower then its not out the question that the hull is carrying pathogens even if you don't see them. It might have even been from a perfect flower that was dried in the same room as some moldy material.
You can rinse your seeds in everclear before popping them if you want to try and sterilize the hull. I don't do hull sterilization habitually, but it might even increase the germination rate. It seems like very time I pull a seed out of the leftover material from QWET it pops. Maybe its the freezing which aids germination or maybe the crappy seeds don't float to the top, but it certainly doesn't seem to do much harm to soak a seed in -30ºF Everclear for an hour or two.

If your buddy still has the mothers & they're clean of PM, make new cuttings for breeding with. Otherwise you are stuck with what you have to work with.

The PM may or may not transfer with the seeds from an infected mother as mentioned above.

If you do decide to go ahead w the project you may experience plants that are more susceptible to PM & some that show resistance. The plants that show resistance are your keepers for future progeny, as long as they perform for other desired traits.

Pm is easy! If its not in flower chemicals wont hurt if u take proper care. Chitosan also works wonders in my experience, and perfectly safe. If its some good genetics u plan to cross i wouldnt let a lil powdery stop yer plans. Quarantine n treat before introducing it to your garden tho.
