Breaking Bad

And yet everyone loves it, do they not? Is it like watching a train wreck? Is it like watching those "reality shows" (that I don't watch either) where we can feel good that our lives are so much better than the poor souls portrayed for our entertainment?

Bread and Circuses...(nobody seems to get the corollary).

Reality shows are based off "reality" or whatever the hell that is considered these days. This is pure fiction.

Breaking Bad is a show of insight and lessons. Watch the first season until now.

THEN tell me the show sensationalizes meth.

In actuality you would see it shows the horrid nature & consequences of the drug trade.

Well, I wouldn't say everyone loves it. Some people don't like watching TV at all.

This thread was created for people that like the show to come and talk about it. This isn't a meth thread, this is a breaking bad thread. Reality shows suck overall, I agree. I wouldn't say breaking bad is a reality show though; it's obviously fictional.

Why was Scarface such a popular movie? Was it the violence or was it the overall message the movie conveyed to the audience?

Panem et circenses...yeah, pretty much. Then again, so is just about anything on tv or the internet.

I'm fully aware that the "meth" is simply the "medium" that "binds" the characters...and their morals. It's still disgusting. How would you feel if they had a television series based upon NAMBLA as the "incidental"? Meth destroys lives. Sensationalizing it into a television series is...and I will qualify this as MY OPINION ONLY...disgusting as I've witnessed what meth does first hand.

Fair enough.

There's only 3 current programs I watch, and TWO of them were shows I had absolutely no interest in initially.

1. The walking dead (been a fan of the genre forever, and they do a decent job, but not great.)

2. Breaking bad (had no interest until I saw an interview with Bryan Cranston talking about the show. Gave it a shot, found the character portrayals and writing to be pretty good.)

3. Game of Thrones (never hear of it, though it looked pretty cheesy. Gave it a shot at the end of the last season, and found it to be one of the best done shows I've ever seen.)

Frankly, if I find myself chilling in front of a screen, I choose the "innernets" over cable TV pretty much every time.

l'homme moyen sensuel, right? Before you go slinging mud, remember Shakespeare wrote for the peanut gallery, not the balcony seats.

:laughing:Looks like we have somone that payed to much attn to the D.A.R.E officer that visited there school in the 8th grade..:violin:Anyways, Breaking bad is one of the best show Ive seen in my life. Very interested in seeing the next season. I think it's gonna focus on Hank catching Walt. I wonder how it plays out being that Walt stepped out of the meth game..

It's real easy you do not like the show do not watch it sometimes people should keep opinions to them selves instead of pissing and moaning in a thread...

Trying to take the high moral ground doesn't work if you sound phony. This is a fucking television show. The Sopranos was excellent, and was based on the freaking mafia. The Wire, arguably the best written/acted show ever, revolved around the heroin and cocaine trade in Baltimore. I would never say these shows sensationalize the drug trade or mob. They merely tell a story, and a damn interesting one at that.

These are current shows, and in order to be relevant, need to take on topics that are in the news today.

I've never really been in the Meth scene, actually never seen the real thing in person. Regardless, it should be legal, along with every other drug out there. If junkies and tweakers want to ruin their lives, let them. When their drug use becomes harmful to others around them, or they start to break the law in order to get high, then prosecute them for the crimes they have committed.

Addiction is a mental health issue, not a criminal one. If the government doesn't have the right to tell me that I can't smoke herb, then it has no right to tell a junkie they can't shoot up. The legality of a drug has no bearing on its use, and the War On Drugs that has raged for the last 40 years thanks to Nixon is proof. If crack cocaine becomes legal tomorrow, are any one of you going to start smoking it? I highly doubt it. If these drugs, which in small amounts are relatively harmless, were legal, then people who have real addiction problems could receive the treatment they need without fear of prosecution.

Prohibition tears at the very fabric that this country and it's constitution was founded on.

Comparing the manufacture and sale/use of methamphetamine to grown men molesting young boys is completely ignorant. Grasping at straws to make a point that isn't there.

Did everybody miss the short scene with Walt getting X-Rayed??
I think that is one of their "hints"....Walt's cancer will return, and I believe he will take himself out with a giant bang!! I just haven't figured out the "What, why or how"-- :tiphat:

that scene was him remembering when he punched the towel dispenser a few seasons back. I believe it was in reaction to finding out his cancer was gone.

But he's a tough mother. Just look at his avatar. We should all respect his authority while he preaches from his soapbox.
