Gertrude I dont know what to tell you, thats one unusual panelbox.Bottom line is if you dont have space for a 2 pole breaker or already have a 240V circuit you dont plan on using,I really dont kno what you can do.

ya only pay for it once tho gert. then your good. that thing looks like a fekin subpanel.
if i had that as my elec. service i believe i would be upgrading. not just for the grow but piece of mind for the rest of the house also.

Just out of curiosity how big is your service ampwise? What the number on the biggest breaker up top?cAN YOU READ ANY NUMBERS ON THE BIG FEEDER WIRES THERE SHOULD BE TWO OF THEM.iT'LL SAY SOMETHING LIKE #4AWG on it damn sorry for the caps lol

a full panel upgrade will be alot cheaper than having a problem 1/2 way thru a grow.
i would hate to see fire and police dudes standing there ogling your ladies!
good luck dude.

I didn't want to even mess with the possibility I'd have a problem so I installed 4 20 amp breakers in my breaker box and ran 4 cables through my attic. I installed a duplex outlet on the end of each cable and all 4 outlets are in my grow closet. I know it's overkill but if I was going to go to the trouble to pull one wire, it wasn't that much more effort to pull 4.

But then I had room in my breaker box and you don't. Having more service installed to an entirely new box by an electrician like has been suggested is the only plausible way I see to fix your problem. Not gonna be cheap, but it'll be safe and then you can relax and enjoy growing. Good luck with your future grow.

And while you're at it, if you have enough amperage to your house, have 20amp breakers put in. IMHO

Get the upgrade. Whew, never seen one like that. Better safe than sorry. I ran #4 wire on a 70 amp 2 pole breaker (240v) from my main and put in a small breaker box for the grow. Update your wiring, its a good investment!

yeah that panel would not be allowed by code to have anything added, 1st thing an electrician will tell you is the whole panel needs to be replaced

How old, and how large is the house...by the looks of the panel, the house is pretty old and fairly small

ya I read about these types of panels before for old houses.. just 6 switches thats it!, house was built in 1950 and its kinda small. Im positive its the main panel.. Iv looked in every nook in the house and even did a walk around outside the house, nothing..

I didn't want to spend like 1000 dollars on a panel upgrade cause Im renting... but If I pull 3 4000 k hydro grows in this house over the summer I should make it worth my while... And who knows, when I leave I can tell the landords I upgraded it and if they don't give me 1/2 the money for it im taking my panel with me! lol

But ya Im gonna call an electrican for an estimate...

And I figure if I get the panel upgrade, I can just add a a couple 120 V circuits my self... I know it will be easy enough with your help on here, plus that way the electrician doesn't even need to go into the basement area, so thats a plus.

if your water meter or water heater is in the basement, then he will have to go in there.
you must ground and bond water pipes when you do a new service.
if you have a well and not puplic water, then he will only have to bond the panel to a cold water pipe.
if your water heater is in the basement, the sparky will have to bond the hot and cold water pipes on the WH as well.
unless you have some sort of pvc for water supply in your house, with no copper tubing anywhere (unlikely) then he will only have to do an earth ground outside by the metering epuipment.

Ok estimated cost for me was between 2,200 - 2,600 Canadian. So ya Im not doing that in a rental property! Not to mention red flags going up when im upgrading my power lines!! so All I can run is 2000 K not the planned 4 k , so that cuts everything in half...

Better safe than sorry!

Just work on tweaking what you have and when you do get to setup the whole shebang it'll rock!

Good luck and stay safe!
