As I hop into my car sometimes it occurs to me that by the time I pay for car, gas and registration plus car payments and insurance it would be just as well off if I got a local job for minimum wage where I could bike to work.
We work to pay for the shit that should save us time but by the time we accumulate the wealth to afford it we have spent more time working to buy something to save us time.
Time is the only comodity that we cannot afford to squander, so as Used to Grow pointed out spend time with those that will most benefit from it and especially those that will value your time more than how much you cost them an hour.
I'd gladly trade in the rat race for a community of caring folks working together to build a more sustainable and les political future for ourselves.
When I think of how my taxes go to pay overinflates govermental salaries and expense acounts for whoring around when people go starving it makes me very, very angry.
We'd rather sell bullets than books, we'd rather feed the poor in a soup kitchen then eradicate famine, we'd except kids to accept not all of them can afford an education, we 'd rather lie to ourselves and say we are evolved and something more when in reality alot of that potential has really led to something less.
I'd love to sound more rosey but Willie illusions make the world go round.

Let's hope our kids get it right.

You make a hell of a point. I know many single dudes who drive Hummers, Expadiitions and other big SUV's with $500-$900 car payments, spend $100-$200 a month on insurance, around $400-$700 on gas and laugh when they are working overtime and have no lives. driving 50 miles each way to work just in traffic. On the low end they are spending $1000 a month if they are lucky and spend 3 hours a day stuck in the car. Charging Big screen TV's and paying for groceries on credit. They could easily get a less stressful, local job and get a smaller car or bike to work and live their lives. You spend 3 hours a day in a car thats 21 hours a week. Since we sleep on average 8 hours a night thats 56 hours which you add up is 77 hours ( 2 days 3 hours ) then they work overtime 50 hours a week ( 2 days 2 hours) so all that is left is 2 days 19 hours to even try to enjoy yourself and you havent went grocery shopping, run errands , cook, paid bills, showered or cleaned up. So you then only have what 2 days? Thats a sad life

Here is what I want to know?

If 10 of us were stranded... plane crash, hicking gone wrong... what ever, trapped in a confined space, you know the story!
If there was a certain amount of food. We would ration among the ten equally.
No one would allow any other person to consume more than their share!
( Now I know anything could happen but usually in situations like this, people work together well.)

Being that there is only so much money in the world. Why would people go along with a small percentage having the most?
Im not exactlly sure but I think in America 1% of the population has 90% of the wealth, or some out rageous number!( if anyone knows the stats, shoot!)

Moving off to be alone is not the answer! Thats the point! Are we not caught up in our own lives to the extent that, we dont have time, or the strength to do anything but sit and watch it happen!

Some people go big time in debt! But did you think ever think of what it would be like if the rich did not extened credit? If you had to pay cash for everything!
It is coming!

In the past I think that war was the only way people found to create change!
But I think that the internet could change that! I believe that it gives the simple man, a voice just as big possibly, as anyones!

I dont want to hope that our kids get it right! I m the daddy! I want to make it right!

You know at work we are taught to focus on the details. Yet, we go through our lives with blinders on!

I have a pretty good life! But what about this little mother fucker my kids
hanging around with? What happens when there is no one to hang with?
I have to worry about every one!

The pods that got that. Got it and it will kick in when it needs to.
Those that did not... lord help you!

Willie!

money is an arbitrary conception that the whole world has agreed to give it certain potential value. therefore, the whole economy is an economy of fantasy :yoinks:
an organized community that works for self-sufficiency in all needs of life can become independent of the game that this economy of fantasy has created, and it seems it is the only sensible model for future development some people say... but who knows  of what use would money be for someone without food wanting to buy food from people who have food but who never accepted the bias that money has some sort of intrinsic value? :kos:

buy some land in a remote area of Alaska, or Canada, or ...

and subsist from the land (build ya a cabin, hunt yer own food, grow yer own veggies and herbs, cut yer own firewood, etc...)

you dont have to play the role that soceity has created for you.

NO it's not easy, but far more simple and far more rewarding.

just my 2cents

Why shouldnt we all move off, pick a state... may I suggest Louisiana, there is one hell of a city in need of some work and inhabitants. Make laws we can live with. Make a model society, a magnet society. They do it with schools and other alternative ways of living, you know ahmish communities and what not. We could have a whole city... The Big Easy!

As Louis Armstrong would say upon exhale, Oh Yeahhhhhhh! :sasmokin:
