Hey Shaolin730 how are those peat cups? I tried using them to germ some really really old bagseed before I dove head first into this hobby and got no luck. Probably the seed but y'never know. I had trouble with oasis cubes too but rockwool worked ok. Soil has been the most foolproof germ media, though.
i like the peat pellets a lot, i've used them pretty much everytime i germed unless i was out, then i just go for straight soil. i also keep them in the transplant they support the upper roots/stalk nicely. i think i'm going to try rockwool next time, they seem interesting plus they look cool!
Rockwool is cool in that after you soak it to stablize the ph you can squeeze it like a sponge to make sure it's damp but not soaking. I think the problem that I had with the peat was that they were too damp after I soaked to expand them. Then again I might have over watered them like most new growers.
when starting them i always soak them and squeeze them out like a sponge, but i leave a little water in it. after that i just keep the surface relativly moist. counting veg from this day on.
1 week veg, lots of deformaties, snapped a few single ones of the retards, each one is a differnt seedling. im sure they will grow out of it and be just fine, they seem strong already and they are drinking a lot. the tri-folate got a special transplant
