Blumat auto watering

Thanks for the video lazyman, I am assuming you don't use organic nutes with the Blumats? I am currently using my Blumats with straight water but I would like to use my General Organics Nutes with my next run. I may have to get an airstone to keep everything mixed.

This was probably discussed in this thread, if you have please link me. Thanks

Hey guys, I was in my room tonight and shooting some other videos, and figured I'd do a quick tutorial for beginners on how to set up Blumats on a system like mine. I apologize for the sideways video, this was the first time I filmed anything like that and first time uploading to Youtube. This is a private link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AsCHtPmEBA
Maybe it will help someone?

VERY COOL!!! I like the "private link" ,too.

I see they have the Blumat sets... Just connect them all and drop the nipple end in my res? Seems to good to be true, where can I get the sets in the US???

I think that you have the two different types of Blumats crossed up. Blumat Jr's have a short, small diameter hose coiled around the top of them, and you can drop the end of it in a reservoir of some type. This type siphons. The regular Blumats, like in the patio kit, are what everyone (or most) on here is using. They have a long 8mm line that you tie each Blumat's 3mm feed line into, and this type is pressure fed. This line is plumbed into the bottom of some type of reservoir with a bulkhead fitting (they call it a thru-hull adapter), and the line is pressurized by the level of the reservoir in relation to the level of the Blumats.

Is anyone running teas or organics through their blumat system with success?

organic teas and nutrients have been found to clog the lines of the blumats over time.

the best solution is to have a "water only" organic soil mix that is well amended with slow-to-break-down nutrients.

if you're like me (a newb), and your soil mix is not fully dialed in yet, you can top dress nutrients, EWC, etc, and water in your teas. the blumats just take a break while your plant absorbs the extra moisture.

also, don't forget about foliar feeding. a good supplement esp in veg.

ive been running h&g cocos in mine. im around 8-8 1/2 weeks and im noticing a little salt build up on top of the coco, which i think is from the shooting powder ive used. i only put in 1 teaspoon per 10gal. when i started using it i put in 4 teaspoons and in 3 days had burnt tips so i have only been using the 1 teaspoon. anyone else get any build up like that? oh ive been using drip clean as well and dont run my ppm any higher than 1000 (.5scale)

What you need is Tropf Blumat. Don't use the Jr's. Also, those distribution drippers are not advised by Blumat guru's in this thread.

I believe Jr.`s have been deemed worthless.

The Blumat Juniors are obviously deemed worthless, because they are not able to provide a sufficient amount of water. But I want to hear it from the ones that have used them with success, what size and type of container did you use?

Specifically I wonder if they will work in a 1 litre airpot in a minisog.

Wanted to pop in and give thanks to Lazyman, Sunnydog, Lapides, and others for all the info they've given in this thread.

Also appreciate the video Lazyman, I'm going to model my setup somewhat after yours, with the rez/lines etc. Just waiting on my kentsystems tee's to come!

No, they are too thick, and have too many particles in them generally speaking. They will definitely clog the 3mm lines within a short period of time.

No, I even tried using Humboldt Verde and that clogged the lines (50% Urea)

Anything thicker than regular checmical nutes (with the consistency of water) will clog the lines.

The rule I've been using lately is, "can you see through a glass of it?" If no, don't put it in the res.

I second that notion. I had Cannazyme clog up the lines over time, and that only makes the nutes cloudy.

Or to put it another way, if it leaves sediment in the rez, it will leave sediment in the lines.

Yep, I would say go all organic and just use water only (no res needed) or run coco and feed salt nutes from an elevated res. Any variation from these seems to be a formula for headaches.

Would be pretty similar, I looked into it but with how many plants I am running outside it would be a huge expense. You gotta have a field loop of larger supply tubing that goes past (if not in a ring) around each plant, and tap Blumats into that. You'd need the Blumat Maxis for better watering depth, which are $7-8 each, and each one apparently will water a 25cm diameter circle, so figure 4-6 of them for larger plants.

with shooting powder....... do you think it would be best to run the last 3 weeks w/ just plain water in the rez. and just hand water w/ the cocos a/b,drip clean, shooting powder, bud xl like 2x a week? been having a little of what i think is salt buildup from the shooting powder

So wait, I've been pronouncing them like Bluh-mats not Bloo-mats. What's the deal here? Anyone here sprechen Deutsches?

Split-level reservoirs are an excellent way to complicate your gravity fed system.

If your on shelves with limited clearance, I just don't see another way without hooking into a line with pressure reducer, along with fertilizer injection.

i have my rez basically on the ceiling because of my micro situation. i have to use a pump to refill. no biggie. i only have to do it a couple times a week. i can get a bigger rez if it becomes an issue.
