Blumat auto watering

Heyyy SunnyDog!,
It seems that my nutes are not fully dissolving or whatever, I am afraid that the cones would get clogged. What should I do? Are they going to clog lol?

As long as they are "adult" blumats, and not "Jr's." you will be fine, as they do not dispense through the cone.

:woohoo:

Those showed up fast!!! :D

My real work schedule will hold me back from doing much right away, but suffice to say I will be spending some time in my room tonight figuring out plumbing:tiphat:

About Nutes, I've always ran the Techniflora recipe for success blend, thru vege and flower (with minor tweaks here and there to suit the plants) And FFOF soil, so feed/water/water schedule. As that will pertain to the blumats, should I top of the res with that same schedule resulting in a constant feed at a diluted rate, or run straight PH'd water in the blumats, and hand water feedings on a weekly basis?

i played around with a few different nutrient solutions running through the blumats. i never had any real failures but i don't think that running the nutes through the blumats simplified things. the only thing i will run through them now is Pro-Tekt a couple times a week and i don't have and issues with crap building up in the lines

if you are going to try running nutes through the blumats i would install a dump valve at the end of your line to make things easy to flush out

i know there is at least one guy out there running pure water with the blumats and feeding buy hand. i smoke too much to swear to it but i think it is either B.Self Reliant
or vStagger. ....... last i read they were happy with it

When I bought mine the guy in the store advised against running 'chunky' nutes through the BluMats,,,,, as did a friend who has used them for a while.

Since I'm using using Botanicare ProGrow and ProBloom. I feed seperately,,, and because I do that, my BluMats don't see much action. As I'm a personal use only, grower, I've only got a couple of plants to watch. They are more for if I get spacey or if I'm out of town for a couple of days.

I use drip-clean by House and Garden, straight nutes. I dunno, I thought that's basically how your supposed to use them lol. I also hand-feed the two that I have hooked up now. I am told/have heard people are getting the biggest yield's from coco, and airpots. Eventually(next round), I plan on using all airpots hooked up to the blumats. I wasn't really tinking when I started the two, they are two different strains-different growth rates...

Marlo also does a fantastic grow with organic soil, plain water blumats, and hand-watered nutrients when necessary.

I'm using the H&G line excepting Amino and Algen through my blumats with coco and airpots and have been loving it. I don't suggest the Algen, others have reported it gumming the lines.

?g constant level res,... the feed line for the blumats comes out the right side that can't be seen about 1" up from the bottom.

No guru but a great way to cover those clear lines is to hit the home depot and get some foam pipe covers in the plumbing section, love the stuff. I made my constant height res using a stand pipe but my next one I plan do like you did and use bulkhead fittings. Nice work man, I think you will really like the blumats.

Covering the lines had crossed my mind to help keep light out of the water...... basement light is seldom on, (everything is outside of the light barrier of the room) But never know what might grow?

What should I do to keep the res clear of bacteria? I've seen where DWC can get a pink slime crap,.... don't figure this is too far afield and may be susceptible as well.

If you don't mind running a dead res (which can result in killing of any beneficials/microbes you are using) you can add a sterilizing product.

I ran Dutch Master ZONE @ 1mL/Gal to keep things clean.
Lazyman ran Bleach at 15ml per 50 Gal. Not sure how often he re-dosed though.
H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) will work as well.. around 3mL/Gal of the 29% stuff, but will needed to be re-dosed often as it quickly dissipates.

I'm currently not running anything at the moment and have no problems with clogging or nasties growing. My water however in my barrels is only around 61F and I'm not using any additives that may cause problems. If things start to smell "off" I'll stir in some h202, but as of late no problems in that department.

I use three different products in my res, with zero ill effect:

ProTeKt @ 2 ml/gal
Ful-Power @ 5 ml/gal
SM-90 @ 5 ml/gal

My dirt mix is fortified that I could get by with straight water, but I do hand-water in teas fairly regularly.

Is the top-off drain (the side-mounted one) able to keep up with the pump as it fills the upper vessel?

I only ask because my upper bucket was rigged like that (to drain out the side), but wasn't able to keep up with the pump bringing water from the lower rez.

greenmatter hipped me to using a bulkhead fitting (a la flood tables), to drain out the bottom. I have to say, it made a considerable improvement in drainage.

But if yours is able to keep up, then it's able to keep up, right? :)

:good:

just too make sure we're on the same page ........ you are running all these together right? do you dose the main res or just the elevated res?

i don't use SM-90 but if i can avoid having to hand water the Ful-Power in then i would like blumats even more than i already do ...... and i love the things

All are mixed together. I treat/mix the water in a bucket before adding to the main res.
