Blumat auto watering

T

TribalSeeds

WARNING- to anyone purchasing blumat Maxi's... When you order them it does not come in a patio kit like the regular ones do. All the tubing, adapters,T's,etc. all come separate! Which is pretty bullshit.... Now I need to wait another week or so before I can start running these.

Might as well skip their stuff and upgrade to 1/2"

The reason for the pipe is so that the over-saturated zone is contained in the small pipe instead of valuable space in the 5 gal.

I would say with properly adjusted B/Ms, IMO, there is no "over-saturated zone" One of the reasons they work well.

Not trying to torture you on this, just trying to avert a potentially bad B/M experience.:badday:

That being said, experimentation is a good thing! :woohoo:

Hi.. Would these work well in a Hempy Bucket setup? And how many do you need for like a 2 1/2 Gal(10 QT) Hempy bucket?

Thanks!

i'm thinking of getting a few bm's to try out, and was wondering at what size pot would you use the maxi's instead of the standard bm's?

Just picked up my blumat! Th shop I get them at, sells them individually. 6 for a maxi! Such a good deal. Picked up a bucket connector for my rez, but it uses a bigger fitting. Have to go back, and get a reducer. Should have it running by days end.

Tip!

Tip!

When tweaking the average moisture content of the soil, lean towards "moister" rather than "drier". I have found this to make a HUGE difference in final yield.

Loosely covering the pot with some panda or mylar can help.

Make sue your soil has enough DE, perlite, or whatever to keep the soil moist ,but airy, too.

Doing no- till, this will be the 3rd run for many of these. :woohoo:

I have had mine set up for a couple days now, so I don't have much to report. My lady hermed, so I kept half to ripen the seeds. I was at about 4 weeks, and the bud was partially salvagable. Hash time!

Also what is a good sized rez to run with about 4 blumats? 5 gallon? I was hand watering every 3 days with soil and smart pots with a half gallon.

^ bigger is always better.. 5 Gallon is too small in my opinion. Figure if each plant is drinking a .5-Gal per day your res is getting low/poss running dry and you'll be having to reset your carrots regularly due to drying them up or reduced pressure.

Go big.

20-30 Gal in my opinion. The larger the res the safer you are. You should be using clean mineral derived nutes anyways which make little difference if they are pre-mixed a head of time.

Bigger is safer and saves you time having to re-up/mix as often.

blumat jr's

blumat jr's

Hi, I am successfully using the blumat jr's. They are working great for me so far. I am doing a micro vert perpetual. 150hps vert, 1gal pots with 1 blumat jr, roots organic chunky coco, head's recipe. There will eventually be 6 around the 150hps. I had 5 in there but just harvested 2. The next 2 are vegging for another week before they get added. Weight on the first two looks small, probably 10 - 14g total. I put them into flower with maybe just a couple of days veg though. I am vegging for 2-3 weeks now before they go into flower. I am confident the next run will be double. I really think I can get 14g per plant.

I have two brand name blumat jr's and then I bought 6 of the no name brand from ebay. Some one here posted the link to them, I am sorry I can't remember who now. The no name ones seem to work great and they are super cheap. Thank you whoever posted that link, you saved me some money.

This is just about the easiest thing ever. I am very happy and I think this is a good solution for someone with just a few plants.

sorry about the blurry pic's, crappy cell phone camera

So are Blumats for soil only??? Or could I use them in a Perlite, vermiculite 3 to 1 mix?

Blumats work great in Coco Coir, and SPM based mixes, but I would not suggest you try it in a perlite/vermic mixture. I dont recall anyone trying it before, but all the best results are coming from Coco, and SPM. Ive tried it with rockwool before, and wasn't happy at all, and Ill be sticking to SPM mixes.

What were the downfalls or things you didnt like about the rockwool?

I was curious if blumats would work with a Grodan Hugo 6x6 or Big Mamma Block 8x8. I love blumats, but hate transplanting.

I've never been too fond of RW, but it'd be great to set a block on a table at floor level and stab a blumat into it. Would make things real clean and easy come harvest time.

I used a Unislab. I can't quite recall the dimensions, but it was equivalent to a 4 gallon container I believe. The problem I had was it never would get correctly dialed in. It would either flood, or it would be moist around the dripping area, but much of the media would be dried out. It was endless frustration, while the plants in SPM mixes performed as expected.

I refuse to use Coco because of the risks that come with getting a medium from a hydro store.

I've never personally used rockwool, but my understanding is that it doesn't retain much, if any water. Seems the blumat ceramic cone needs some constant moisture around it. Maybe a mix of rockwool and SureToGrow foam fabric or whatever it is would work. The STG really holds on to water.

e_24, I read lots of people liking a 5 gallon bucket so that's what I'm trying out with 6 sensors. I do need a bigger reservoir for when I'm away, but what I plan on doing is adding additional 5 gallon buckets as necessary. Say I added 2 buckets and used 2 hoses to form a "upside down U" bridging neighbor buckets to create a siphon effect so that all 3 buckets will be at the same water level. I figure most of us have buckets and hoses laying around. Hope that helps.

You can always purchase your coco online. Id much rather use a professional SPM mix that I can pick up at two nearby locations and avoid the Hydro stores altogether.

I think you may be mislead about RW's ability to hold-water. It will hold plenty of water. Maybe someone else will have better luck with RW & Blumats, but Im sticking with what I know.

Using blumats to feed my outdoor guerrilla garden this year! Think this set-up should work? I have a thru hull connector on each of those rez and they are teed together...:)
