Blown S&P 200 fan!! BLAH!!! What now!?

I've had this fan for under a year, right now it's blowing into a big carbon filter (or, was...). I had it on a speed controller, but then removed the speed controller and ran the fan on high for a couple seconds and then boom. Tripped the circuit a few times, and it was over. Get this smell that resembles the smell you get while soldering wires

The little cylinder that looks like a D battery looks fine, so I take it the motor inside the fan is fried?

Anyone dealt with this? A: what the fuck happened!?

B: anyone had to deal with warranties? I would hope this fan has one..

was just about to start flowering, then this happens. My current living situation would not favor a situation with no odor control, so something must be done soon, and I am broke...

A. Sometimes things fail. Even fans rated to run on speed controllers can overheat under some circumstances. Quality control isn't 100% anywhere outside of a nuclear reactor (well hopefully it's 100% there). You may just have a bum unit.

B. If you bought it from a retailer and have the receipt they cover their fans currently with a 5 year limited warranty. I dunno what caused your fan failure, but it's most likely still under warranty. Contact S&P.

Funny thing, I purchased a TD-200x from SimplyPlumbling.com and it failed after I tried to install a speed controller. When it busted I emailed them and they replaced it no questions asked.

for what it matters, the hi speed is blown. low still works, but yea...low wont cut it for cooling a 1000watt 4x4 tent blowing through a 40lb filter

hmm youre running a 4 x 4 tent too eh? im running a 400 watt on low with a td-150 (6") through a carbon filter and cool tube, and it cools it just fine. id like to move up to a 1000 watt and you think id need it running on hi? certainly something to think about me thinks.

Two things...
If the CFM rating of the filter was less than that of the fan, it may have been making it hard work on the fan, which could result in early failure.
Also, when we speed control a DC motor, we can run the things down to nearly nothing and they will still function. An AC motor on the other hand sees tremendous heat when a speed controller is used. Running an AC motor via a speed controller is very hard on the windings of the motor. Unless a variable frequency motor drive is used, we run the risk of early failure using common speed controllers on AC motors. When you get down to about 20% of it's capacity, it is close to smoke.

speed controller

was using the Fantech WC15 speed controller with the fan.
Did the speed controller (usually controlling the low speed) cause early failure?

This. Fucking. Sucks.
Supposed to start flowering right now in order to try to finish before the end of December. Can't begin flowering when there is no known future on odor control, given I live on the first floor of an apartment/house.

Emailed the distributor of the fan two days ago, still no response. I can't hold off on this shit:mad:

Any ideas what to do for odor control?
I can plug the fan in temporarily on low speed and it will run for a bit, but ultimately will turn itself off.

buy another? trade for one? i dont know if it's fixable - and with a time frame as small as you have, might need to look at other fans
