Yooooo,

I'm researching a pretty good sized LED hydro grow, and the only 3 names that I hear repeatedly are the Spydr 1200 or the NeoSol DS.
Honestly, I'm not in to spending this kind of coin for an initial start up, but these goddamn Nanolux DE's are too hot, and as a believer in physics, particularly the inverse square law; I don't believe in the hype of the marketing, getting super tired of my 3 ton AC not properly cooling 8 of them and costing me thousands of dollars to burn plants, and give me yields similar (or less) to my aircooled horti reds. How the hell do you expect to get the same lumen output from a greenhouse fixture 3+' above the tops??? don't give me that "overlap" and MOL BS either! Maybe with help from the sun!

As a former Hydro store owner and Advanced Nutrients tech rep, I'm all too aware of the erroneous statements constantly made by these marketeers, and constantly believed by Joe public (A sucker is born every minute). I'm not trying to have smoke blown up my ass. I want some serious truth. Before you recommend me to build my own, my time is far more valuable, and to build an LED light would cost me twice what full MSRP would be on these 2 fixtures.

If you own either of these, or something just as good or better, or cheaper, have at least a year with them, and know what you're doing, I would really love to hear your input. We don't have to get too technical, but if you have input you feel could benefit an LED newb, I would really appreciate it. I'm gonna be looking for 20 of these things, to start, and if you have a line on where to save some $$$ I would love to hear where! Thanks so much!:thank you:

You know me, no bullshit....

Check out my LED grow...
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=325694

I was in the same position, wanting to change out my DE's for the summer. Looked at all available companies and decided on Starlite, an ICMAG sponsor...

The lights are the truth! 25% brighter then my DE system with next to no heat makes me a very happy grower...

Biggest difference in LED lighting in are the LED's themselves. 99% of them come from China, their design limits their on power due to thermal loss. The Spyder your looking at fits in that category and I have personally seen it taken apart and seen whats really going on in the fixture...

Starlite's LED's are on a whole new level. Their patented LED's are able to produce much higher power, for a much longer time. 10 year life span on the bulbs...

Initial startup is not as bad of a sting as you may think. You would immediately see saving in electricity. Currently saving $520 a year in electricity with that grow, NOT running an ac and buying a new bulb...

If you want to discuss more im always on here and Alex from Starlite is on here frequently..

It's been a few days, and I have read some research, other articles, and watched a shit ton of youtube vids from black dogs to Mars, etc. it's obvious that COBs are the biggest game changer in it right now. I'm sure CREE and Epistar are BAF, but is there maybe a Chinese knock off for a third the money that will produce the same? Any suggestions?

I'm running COBs now - Cree CXA3070 and Bridgelux Vero 29s and loving both. I know people that use the Fluence Spyder X and the Lumigrow Pro 650s. They are all amazing lights. Lots of production with much less heat. If you're looking for a bulk deal check out growershouse dot com.

appreciated, but why run these? looks like I would need 4-6 of them to properly cover 5x5' no?

these because similar to the illumitex and spider the have spread and not a spotlight type

and these because we can see the components used in them and the efficiency and par values they will give

to cover a 5x5 you would need

3 of the CX300 900W/840ppfd

or 3 of the cxp-250 (this is what id rocomend) 750W/750ppfd

I talked to them about those modular bars. They said it would take 10 to cover an 8x 8 area. They were under $600 a piece so it came to around $6k to cover 2 4 x 8 tables. Most lights that cover a 4x 4 area go for around $1500 so it's about what it costs right now. I would assume 10 lights would get a better spread than 4.

I have a 2 year old SPYDR 600. Excellent design, but poor execution. Quite flimsy. Hopefully they made significant improvements

Amare Technologies now has a Pro series that is in bar form, but using Cree CoBs. The AT P300 is supposed to light a 2 x 4 @ $800

Probably not on their website yet

email them maybe they'll send pictures

we have decided to go vert, by way of 8'x8'x52' botanicare tray. a tier every 4'. I'd like to be able to get a pretty even throw, approx 6-8" from the canopy. This kind of leaves out the spectrum king, and the Starlite. How far do I have to distance a 750w CREE COB panel from the canopy in a climate controlled room with ample air circulation? It's looking like the new SpydrX plus is probably the ideal unit for this application, no?

cobs can be 6-12 icnhes

about the spydr ill copy a recent post of mine from another thread where the dude was asking about diy to the spydr x plus

10-12 cxb3590s will have a much higher efficiency so much more light for the same watts

if u can tunr that into higher yeild depends on ur skill, 2g per watt is the new benchmark with these kinds of systems, 1.5g per watt is average

u can just pick up the cutter kit and no need to hunt for parts

500w
http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut2994

400w
http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut2903

250w
http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut2993

use code CUTANDROLL for a discount

so for 1420 USD you can have 750w of 57% efficient light including shipping

compared to the spyderxplus...

spydr=900ppfd in a 4x4

cree=1390ppfd in a 4x4

if u only take the 500w kit then you would have the same ppfd as spydr-900

so
940 usd/500w cree= same amount of light as 1500usd/660w spydr

so you wuold need 2000w per 8x8 foot section

Dion Thanks for all the support and your suggestions. I like the way you think! I am putting together a comparison spreadsheet for my financial partners, and I am definitely adding these kits to the list.
