Blackstar 180w LRr2: The First Mission

Just because there is no "heat", light can still kill your plants. Too much light will eventually bleach and damage the vegetation, just like sun bleaches paint.

have fun with that

seems powerful as you've got tight internodal spacing!!

good luck with that

I'm on day 18 post emergence. I hope they sex in a couple of days, I've run out of room in the cab and need to thin the herd.

One of my plant has huge -deep chunk- chunky leaves. I measured this one today at 70mm wide.

I'm getting good lateral developement. I did increase the distance from the light to 11 inches, as SR suggested to gain a bit of stretch.

I have to get busy with the odor control. At least that's what the inspector says:

Looks really good. K+ for you.

Don't thin them! Just run them in SOG. That strain should perform beautifully.

Thanks all. I'm having fun.

I just haven't been happy about my cool temperatures. It's been in the mid to low 60's too many times when I've checked in the morning --and I always check in the morning.

I raised the ventilation ports above the top of the cab. The light is effectively even with the ceiling of my cab + or - 2MM.

It was just the change I needed in my unheated room. My cab is now running at 78F. I may have to drop it back into the cab if the PC fans and passive nets aren't enough ventilation

yeh definetely drop it back in. your setup was working well and you know what they say 'if something works....

by the way your plants look like strawberry plants cus their so fat lol. that looks healthy. sog is good just give em a trim round the leaves if it gets too mush. though you could probably build a slightly bigger cab for that light and make the most of it..

good work tho...gotta love led's

Mitch, Since there are so many variables with the length of germination I start counting from emergence. These plants emerged on the 16th and 17th of February. 19 days, today.

Indeed, I keep the door closed. I've seen what the cat will do.

Skotty. I think that every time I look in the cab. These aren't feminized seeds so I should be able to remove some males very soon.

I've seen very nice grows with small numbers of plants in a given space, like yours. I've also seen some SOG grows that look good.

Right now I'm just waiting to find out just how many ladies I have in waiting.

Auto G,

Thanks. They do look like strawberry plants.

I wanted to move the light up so that I could keep the cab a bit warmer. The air that came out of the fan was at room temperature, and my room is too cool at night. By moving the light out I can capture more heat. I still have passive ventilation and fans runnings.

In any case, the weather is improving and in a week or two I'll driop it back in and make good use of the fans.

if your cab temps are too low get a seedling heat mat.

Skulls and roses suggested that too. I thought it was a good idea and I ordered one. Should be here in a couple of days.

Today is day twenty. The plants continue to look healthy and are growing well but there is no sign of sexing. I have to consider that the cool temperatures are delaying the sexual maturity of my LR2's a bit.

Anyone else had delayed flowering with a known AF cultivar? These seeds were from a reliable seedbank. They certainly look and smell like the pictures and descriptions I have read here.

I do not believe they've been hit with too much nitrogen (a sure way to delay peppers and tomatoes).

My pots are fairly small at 1 gallon, and I see good root development at the drainage holes, so they should be getting a bit rootbound -something that generally encourages flowering.

The only other thing I can think of is the LED. Its Gotham's "flowering" model of the blackstar, with lots of red to support flowering.

Oh well, I suppose I am impatient. At least the delay and my observation of these plant's structure is making me optimistic that the male female ratio will be skewed to female plants.

Did I mention that I am impatient?

Looking good so far, i hope they start to get a big taller, thats good to know that LED light has some serious penetration power! Keepup the good work, cant wait to see these babies hit full bloom!

I was hoping the same thing. Right now they range from 4-5 inches tall and are 9-10 inches wide.

I've raised the lights to 12" and it looks like they are starting to lengthen (I hesitate to say stretch, because it's not that evident)

From what I'm seeing so far I am ready to grab another LED and expand.

It's midnight. 21 days, post emergence. They ought to be showing - and I know what to look for.

I would bet that a lot of you have run LR2s. Whats the longest they have gone without sexing? In your expert opinion (and anyone who pays attention here soon becomes an expert) isn't this too long from emergence?

Claude, I've grown LR2 twice. Once outdoors, and once indoors. Outdoors, they revealed their sex within 15-18 days (from breaking above ground). Indoors I was finally able see gender early in the 4th week above ground. I didn't enter in my journal exactly WHEN the first plant showed (duh), but did log the date I found ALL the indoor LR2s showing their sex - day 30. I suspect they started the 'reveal' around day 24 and 4-6 days later all were 'out'.

My indoor growing area stays in the range of 64-68 degrees during winter. My indoor grows I think are sometimes slower to progress than you EXPERTs here, and I've thought it's partly due to the lower temps. :dunno:

And of course, using LED grow lights doesn't do much to raise the temps.

MariJuanita,

Thanks, its good to hear about the later flowering. It must be the temperature as the plants look splendid.

Yes, even kept on a 24 hour straight light regimen there is not much heat from the light.

Patience...patience.
