Black or White Ebb & Flow Tray...Which Is Better?

i'd go with white if prices were the same, it doesn't absorb as much heat as black. My tables are black though........they were mad cheap concrete trays at the hardware store.

If you get white trays, just make sure your reservoir is lightproofed well

Irish, what kind of problems come from it absorbing heat? Root troubles?

I guess I was thinking that black would not reflect light back to the roots when plant canopies are smaller, but maybe thats not a concern....is it?

Thanks for the advice!!

Joe

I prefer white...reflects light back up, easy to see when there is algae growth, but any tray that doesn't leak will do the trick

eh.........albert had some better points than me.
like he said, you just don't notice algae growths or impurities as quickly with black trays as with white trays.
In an EF tray, absorbing heat usually won't be a big deal........i was nitpicking

I know in my local store the black and white are 2 different prices from different manuafacturers. The black is actually a little smaller than the white one

I always thought you were suppose to buy both trays. White one on the bottom and black one on the top. I dont have a E&F tray but my clone tray I have both black and white.

eligul: would your reason for 2 trays with your clone tray be that one has drainage holes and the bottom one catches the water?

Maybe someone else has a reason, but the only reason i can think of to use 2 trays for EF tables is to let your local hydrostore guy put away a lil more cash for his kid's college tuition.

Same concept as black/white poly, reflect the light outside and keep the lights away from the roots inside.

I understand your thinking but it is incorrect :bashhead: Only one tray is needed, however, black pots inside the trays is common...like this

That looks about right. Good looking out.

the white ones are way better!

they are much stronger in form and feel, and they clean EZ!

The black ones you have to scrub and scrub to get em clean, and when you do the brush can make small swirl marks, so you know its soft plastic. The white ones clean much easier and the plastic feels harder, though it may be more brittle.
