Bill C539 - Rules for Legal Grows

Hey Everyone,

Thought all medical grower might be interested in the bill proposed by Liberal MP, Michelle Simpson.

She is trying to enact all sorts of prohibitive rules for legal medical growers. Such as no grows in commercial buildings, background check for your PPL, inspections of all grow sites, and notifying neighbors for grows in multi-unit buildings!!!

If I had a med grow in a multi-unit building I would feel vulnerable if the whole building knew what was going on. Stipulations like that could end up causing far more problems than they prevent.

The part that would prohibit anyone convicted of a drug related crime in the previous ten years is also a dangerous stipulation. Just because someone may have had a marijuana related conviction doesn't mean they don't have a legitimate need for medical marijuana thus a right to grow their own medicine.

Tell me you are kidding! There is NO WAY that this bill should be passed as it puts medical marijuana growers in harms way. Hell I know a patient that lives in the Jane & Finch area in Toronto and if they had to tell all their neighbors they would have a home invasion within a week.

Sorry but I DON'T support telling neighbors. But I have NO PROBLEM with having the grow facility inspected to make sure that everything is up to the standards.

I have had my garden by the police , fire and E.S.A., hell the guy from the fire department made us take down the reflective material stating that it was haserdous LOL

Definitely in contradiction to every book I've read. Most authors may as well shout to "Not tell ANYONE!"; and the gov. wants us to let the neighbors know. That neighbor talks to his buddy.

"Wow dude next door has XX plants - I'm gonna rob his ass"'

If your neighbors don't rob you - the people he tells will.

ok say you had a drug offence 5 years ago, then ended up with cancer. Just because you did something within the last 10 years you won't be able to grow for yourself??. I can see not letting designated growers have drug related criminal records. But the patients themselves... Would be the same as someone not allowed morphine.

I am corresponding to your article of June 15, 2010.

Two years ago an associate of the Liberal party approached my real estate agent at the time and asked to rent out my commercial space. If one was to define irony, or even comedy, it would be an elected city official having their office above a legal marijuana medical garden. To even take this thought further, it was indeed the liberal party, god bless them that helped sick and dying Canadians establish the Medical Marijuana Access Regulations and their right to medical marijuana.

Needless to say, I declined Ms. Simpson’s offer, and opted for a hair salon owned by two proprietors instead. Ms. Simpson was shortly re-elected and tenanted another commercial space a few doors down.

For the record, I own my property. I also have been doing what I have been doing before Ms. Simpson came to the neighborhood.

The article was brought to my attention to day from a Medical Marijuana Forum called treating yourself, where I am a contributing member.

The medical marijuana production Ms. Simpson, MP for the Ward, is referring to is my medical garden. I was hoping to share my side in all of this.

I have been cultivating medical marijuana for 4 years through Health Canada’s Medical Marijuana Access Regulations (MMAR). My wife, 4 year and 8 month old daughters, myself live above the commercial space.

I never disclosed my medical garden because it is my right as a property owner and federal exemptee right not to. It is also a security risk. In 2007 after I allowed 41 division to inspect my garden, their Sergeant advised that “I tell know one”.

I also had City of Toronto Building inspectors come to my property numerous times since 2007, with regard to permits for construction.

Also since 2007 the Electric Safety Authority has inspected my property with regard to permits for electrical work.

I have also had the Fire Marshall for my area inspect the premises, as well as The Safety and Standards Authority, inspect.

I am still here, and I believe my Simpson will be hearing from my lawyer.

How I am I not being responsible, accountable and forthwith.? What am I hiding and how am I profiting off my dying friends?

I produce medical marijuana for three terminally ill federal exemptees. My wife and I help treat AIDS/HIV, epilepsy, spinal cord injury and depression.

Ms. Simpson’s allegations are bias, unfair and uninformed. It seems that she is trying to us my livelood as a way for her to get some votes in our riding.

I actually spoke to Ms. Simpsion in December of 2008 and disclosed to her what I was doing and why. At that time, she told me she was tabling a bill to change the MMRA. I said why don’t we work together. It is important to have the federal exemptee’s input in accessing medical marijuana. She said that after the Christmas holiday when parliament readjourns that she would contact me further. Needless to say, it is June 16, 2010, and I have yet to hear from Ms. Simpson.

My response I guess is this one sided article.

I would like to take this a step further. Have you see my facility, meet my wife and children. I would even like to have my patients at the same time.

If Ms. Simpson thinks I grow medical marijuana to lead an extravagant and lavish lifestyle, I think it is time that she trades in her BMW for Honda CRV, like I have.

Medical marijuana cultivators, and users in Canada are being discriminated against, and Ms. Simpson is fueling this fire.

I am a law abiding citizen, family man and medical marijuana cultivator. This is my chosen life path and my means to be a contributing and productive person within my community.

My family helps, not just with marijuana. We have love and share love.

I look forward to an opportunity to have my side of the story heard.

Protest Bill-C539

Protest Bill-C539

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up. We are planning a protest this week in front of MP Michelle Simson's office.

We are asking ATP's, PPL's, and D.G.'s to challenge MP Simson's private members bill and to hold her accountable for using politics to disclose a federally licensed production site to the public.

If you are interested in attending or showing your support, kindly pm me and I will give you the date and time. If you need a ride, please also let me know.

We want to make sure MP Simson will be in her office.

I also wanted to thank Hopalong for his wisdom. He gave me a call last week and helped me work through some of my issues. Thank you Hopps' I needed you to shed some light.
