Big brother and 7-11?

G

Guest 18340

I went to purchase some e-z widers from my local 7-11 last night and the girl wanted to swipe my drivers license thru her cash register. I first asked her what information it records and who gets this info. She didnt know her ass from her elbow so i left the papaers and went home and got out my trusted (and crusty) bowl.
Today i called their corporate place in texas and no-one their could/would tell me anything. Does anybody know what info is being recorded and who is getting this info? Here in florida, our licenses have a magnetic strip on the back, just like a credit card. I know that when a cop swipes your license into his computer all your info pops up on his computer screne, including your ss #.
I know i shouldnt be surprised by what our totalitarian (sp) government is doing but this is freaking ridiculous. Their are no signs anywhere on the counter telling you that your info is being recorded. Anybody know anything about this?

I'm pretty sure it only reads your birth date because they can't trust retarded cashiers to determine if you are of age.

I still wouldn't trust it. Also, I didn't even know you had to be of a certain age to buy papers. When I went to a few clubs in chicago they'd have a machine out there scanning licenses and the bouncer told me it verified ages and also recorded names "in case a fight or fire broke out". So basically, those things can be recording your agem your ssn, your address, anything.

I wouldn't trust it.

Do you get carded a lot for alcohol and tobacco in general? Most of the time when I buy beer they swipe my DL. I assumed it was an attempt to catch fake ID's. But if there's some special rule to swipe the ID of those who buy papers, no matter how old they look then **** that. I just get papers from a head shop and of course they don't swipe.

Papers are a tobacco related item so you have to be 18. The magnetic strip only contains the same data that is printed on your license. So if they wanted to they could keep a record of your name and what you bought but I really think it's just to help the clerks with fake ID's.

it's for fake IDs... I wouldn't worry about it, although who gets a fake ID so they can buy rolling papers? :bashhead:

Never had my ID swiped...

Most cashiers I deal with just perform a visual ID check and go about their biz...

sketchy at best.......
you did right by walking away (too big brotherish) and unless it was common practice known to all tobacco users I'd have shied away too. Wal-Mart doing it for a hunting license makes sense & it would be info you'd be required to provide for that license regardless of clerks ability to swipe it or just write it down. buy your favorite wraps online by a reputable dealer, buy them by the case & save $.

The day is comming............

The day is comming............

Sounds like a test run of what's coming nationally(globally). Soon they will get rid of cash and everyone will have some sort of debit card for all purchases. They will soon know what you spend every dime on. And then make sure that tax cheats become extinct. Not to mention all the illegal activities. I can't see drug dealers taking visa do you?

It's coming...............

I noticed this too when I bought a green dot prepaid credit card and had to give them my SS# to activate it, wtf.

My friend had to have his driver's license swiped while buying beer a couple weeks ago at the local family-owned grocery store, so it's not just walmart and 7-11 confirming your ID this way

yes Smokey, You have a clear vision of the the future.. cashless society. its in the bible, somerwhere in revelations.... " nobody will be able to buy or sell unless they have the mark..." scary shit no doubt... I will not accept a mark of any kind, if that really happens in our lifetime, I will go to the countryside, live of the land, and just be free from babylon system...

I agree, eventually they will try to switch to electronic money only, doing away with paper currency/coin. They will do so touting how it's so "convenient and easy" for ppl to buy stuff everywhere without the "hassle" of coins and bills.

I fear this greatly, and feel it should instantly ignite a revolution if it ever happens...

Don't forget, it'll also make it easy and convenient for the powers that be to take everything you own/destroy your life if you ever do something they do not approve of... Not saying it'll happen tomorrow by any means, but it's gonna happen.

Be Prepared...

Peace

Evlm2/Big Brother ?

Evlm2/Big Brother ?

Well Evlm2 I am pretty sure now adays that Uncle sam is connected to big Brother and the coded strip tells all most the life story of the person, some strips can tell you what the personal purchasing record is. The strip on back of the driver's licesne is what all cops run in thier patarol car to get the rap on someone. I think medical cards have strips as welll credit cards, colleges and universities use coded strips on the cards. If you use your credit card to buy food or merchantdise, well if you purchase a item from unvieristy or college book store big brother knows what you bought, in the mid 50s when I was born Compuetrs were part of a Buck Rogers novel and the only thing cover gave you was a social security number. my questiopn to all you brother growers out across the globe now aday are we just a number in a populated world, that getting smaller or are we still people and humans

what about when they start using that stored info against you. let's say your Dr. told ya to quit smoking & you did, but you still bought smokes for your wife, or mother/father etc....... now it comes down to you're needing certain medical care with some form of assisstance from the govt. or insurance companies. And presto! they got you buying cigs etc for yrs when you claim to be tobacco free.......

think this shyt won't start to happen in one form or another? what if every liquor store had the license # of everyone currently on DWI charges & suspends them from buying any alchohol when their license is swiped? so that even the company at your XMas party won't be spiking the egg nog if you can't buy any at all, that affects other peoples enjoyment. it's coming folks.......

Agreed. If you feel sketched out by the practice, buy it online. Or hell, any gas station shouldn't be in the biz of swiping IDs

Or what about what's going on now, where people don't even bat an eyelash when they read about millions of people's info being hacked and stolen from govt servers, medical servers, financial corporations service.

Or the use of RFID in things like cell phones so you can just wave your cell phone in front of a reader at the store and it debits your bank account accordingly? (In use in Japan)

I think Visa has cards coming out now that have the same functionality. No more swiping. Just waving.

Went to Wal-Mart to get my oil changed. They scanned my VIN number, got my Drivers License #, and asked for my SS#. That's messed up. Just for an oil change. Doesn't seem right to me.
