Big boy dehumidifier comparison

How does something like this
http://ingramswaterandair.com/aprilaire-whole-house-dehumidifiers-1730a-p-15591.html

compare to sante fe? I can't find better specs for this thing to compare liters of water it can remove from the number of amps. Basically, any of the "whole home" units would be MUCH better than the portables? Mounting them on the ceiling might be a little challenging :)

Looks like the prices for santa fe is not too far off, so I might as well go with something trusted. Just thought I would order something from this company since I was getting a bunch of other stuff as well. BTW, they have great prices for splits fyi, got the link from a post here...

anyone who is interested

from the specifications listed it comes out losing to the santa fe classic
the classic lists 110 pints a day at 6.4 amps
the aprila lists 65 pints a day at 8 amps

the santa fe specs are AHAM (80F at 60% humidity) aprila specs?

also the amperage will vary dependent on temperature and humidity so devoting a 15a circuit wouldn't be excessive for ether unit

Yeah, not even close.. Do you have a good place to order sante fe or similar models? Needing something for 4k-5k lights

One more post and I'm done, would the sante fe compact be enough for 4K or should I step up to something like the advance? Right now a cheapo "70 pint" will do 2k easily for me (with a/c), this is also for coir dtw, smart pots 5-6 waterings a day. I keep room at 80F with 1200 co2...

Those sante fe impact have an awesome efficiency! Do those things really do what they claim?

it says 90 or 150 a day. then at the bottom it says
PINTS/DAY: 65
??? am i missing something?

that seems to be a waste of money as its only twice as strong as a residential 72 pint..

either way most dehumidifiers break after 1 year. so id say go cheap. you can get homedepot to price match online prices and you can get 2 72 pints for $300...

Lets say you bought 2 of the 70 pint, more like $250 each where I can get them. You have to replace them every year, so in 2 years, you got $1000 in dehumidifiers. A santa fe compact costs that and runs more efficient, producing less heat, less kw you are pulling. These are designed to run year round, inside of crawl spaces, not the best environment. Plus, I don't know about you, but the noise alone would keep me from having 2 of those cheap units running. Some of the places down south are so humid to begin with, we are already behind :)

well the key is to have homedepot price match online prices to get the cost lower. as i said you can get 2 for $300.

it says its 8amp i dunno how many watts, so it could possible be more efficient. however if you are having a big enough grow room to need a santa fe and u live some where humid u will need more then 65 pints a day.. especially at night! i dunno how many plants u have or your feeding system but if your buying a $1000k dehumidifier u prob got more then 20 plants in that case u honestly think 65 pints will be enough to get u down to lets say 40%. I dont grow in my house so noise is not a problem or an issue...

im only speaking from experience. any my experience says you will need close to 150-200 pints at least! my room is 30x40 and i got about 200 pints system and im still a bit on the humid side!!!

im just trying to help if you dont want it just dont listen to what i saw...

I'm always open to opinions, thanks for chiming in. I had the exact same opinions about them as you when I first looked into them. But here is what it comes down to:

The santa fe uses 6 amps and will actually pull as much water as two cheaper units of the same "size". Those cheap units are sized by "saturation", not AHAM. If you look at specs, the santa fe saturation is 140 pints @ 6 amps, those cheap units are 70 pints @ 8 amps. The electricity alone will pay for this unit quickly, especially if you are looking to run it anytime at all. Shaving a little off my electricity every month is worth it for me, but I understand it won't be for everyone. Also, you make a good point with the cost of the units, if it goes out, well, you go to the store and pick up another, if you pay for one of the higher end units, it won't be that easy. Lots of different ways to look at it.
