I find this good product vs proper purge debate to be rather trivial.

I personally like to only use the best material possible, and I fully purge the oil. Best of both worlds.

When would you ever have to actually make that decision other then the realm of hypothetical?

I agree with HMK, in that under purged oil does not really have much of a bad taste, however, he never said is goal was producing upurged oil, only that the taste of the oil is dictated by the starting material, first and foremost.

this is what is meant by grade A trim... all sugar leaf and popcorn nugget, no stems or fan leaves. freshly dried within the last month. the strain is querkle.

^That trim is better than 90% of the material I start with lol. Really wish I could grow my own or find some quality like that!

Well here is another run I did with Shake. Did the purge different this time and the results were much better. Much more citrus taste this time along with a little kush flavor.

I'm not sure you could call this properly purged, even after 2 hours. I don't think you can ever completely purge BHO without a secondary solvent or a steam boil evaporation. Just allowing the BHO to sit, and bubbles to release, is not properly purged. But I do not mean to tangle or argue, so please do not take offense. Product looks fantastic, and I do not agree with everyone who says it MUST be properly purged to smoke. I would smoke that, but i would also appreciate it being purged more fully, first.

Hey TicklemyBalls,
I'm curious about your Budder. Does it get sticky at all? Because you aren't removing waxes or fats, can you get it to be completely non-sticky? Properly made budder should not be sticky at all. In other words, you should be able to handle it, with no stretching of the oil. Budder should be almost hard like shatter, but instead of shattering, it separates like high quality bubble would when dry.

Can you tell us what kind of constituency you are getting from that golden mass of yummyness?

i disagree. butane's boiling point is so low that if you get a method down where the heat is at the right temp consistently, coupled with refined butane and quality material, and knowing the proper amount of butane to use, it's absolutely possible to fully purge without another solvent. and it can be done quickly. HMK says he can do it in an hour.

personally this is the fastest anything has ever finished purging for me. generally I let it sit overnight or for at least 8-10 hours on a heating pad, but this was ready FAST. I think it has to do with the high concentration of resin in the material. this wax would have looked the same if I left it on the pad for 24 hours. the reason I didn't want to leave this batch on longer than was needed is because it's extremely fragrant and I didn't want to degrade any of the terpenes.

and Jump, why would you want to remove waxes? some of the wax is what contains the terpenes. the more of that you remove, the less flavor and smell the oil has.

you just described the consistency dude. things aren't always what they seem huh? it's not sticky at all. everything I make is completely manageable. does not stick to fingers, does not leave residue. some people don't like it because it's hard to get to stick to whatever they use for dabs. those big globs you see don't stretch, they break into little pieces.

Okay, I didn't realize you were using a heating pad. That should work fine. I'll try running a batch of budder that was not redissolved in a secondary solvent, and see how my budder turns out. I've only done after making shatter. Thanks for the info!

I learned about the removal of waxes a year after I began to use ethanol to remove the bubbles, considering them useless residual butane.
Gunnaknow wrote to me about winterization, but personally I saw flakes only when I began to use a transparent vessel for the secondary dissolution.
And later I learned that “concrete-absolute” is one of the commonly accepted procedures for allocating flavors from plant material,
that finally convinced me of the correctness of these actions.
I never imagined that waxes contain fragrances, but have read that to stay healthy you should avoid smoking fatty substances.

From a medicinal standpoint though, wouldn't using a second solvent to remove the waxes degrade the effectiveness of the medicine as some terpenes contain benefits such as Antidepressant, Antiinflammatory, AChE inhibitor, etc?

I understand the smoking fatty substances standpoint but, lets say assuming we have BHO that is tested to have an extremely minute/no amount of butane, would the benefits of the terpenoid benefits outweigh the cost of smoking minute amounts of fatty substances?

Not trying to bash I am just trying to understand every aspect. Thanks for any input!!!

I separated the waxes and tasted them by themselves. It was PURE NASTY! There are no terpenes in the waxes as far as I could tell. It was just straight up nasty like a back alley ho!
