Sigh....the brief shot I saw of the roots looked ok but I'd love to see better photos. I don't know anything about root rot really......never had it......but do you think that is what is going on? Are the roots that "hang in the water" breaking or rotting off? And whatever they are sitting in.....what is the ph/ppm of it? Did the roots somehow get clogged in the hydroton?

And I'm really sorry you lost your plants. Hopefully we can figure out exactly what happened and prevent it next time.

Did you clean out your pump real well and disinfect it before using it again??
Can you upload some recent pics of them?

Asazo....The end product, In my opinion was paralizing!!. Endless Sky has to be the most potent Indica on the planet. It can be a very pretty plant that runs about 10 weeks in flower. It has a heavy fruity pebble smell to it....dense buds....very good shit!!

good fer ya, ceephas. who knows, maybe after a dozen or so grows i might try ES again when i'm feeling a bit more experiencd and inspired.

hey MynameStitch and Weedhound. the ppm/pH were all good. the roots looked pretty clean (no brown bits or pcs falling off), but not all of them were especially robust. ive seen pics of really thick and healthy roots before, and mine looked similar, just very straggly (and not to mention they had snoid clinging on to them).

I cleaned EVERYTHING out from top to bottom. i first scrubbed and scrubbed w/ boiling water and safe suds for about 30 minutes, before letting everything soak in a strong solution of h2o2. Got a LOT of gunk out of the filter. Spent a good part of my time just working on that.

I still can't believe how quickly it all went to shit. MynameStitch, i put some pics my gallery -- shows a few of the plants that wilted lickety-split. when i pulled them i looked at their roots and they actually looked fine (not even any snoid). i cut into the stalk to have a look at it and it also looked healthy, just a wee bit floppy. coulda used plant version of viagra (but for girls!)

let me know what you think once you see the pics. sorry but didnt get anymore pics than those -- no other/better pics of the roots.

is there somewhere on this site, perhaps, that discusses recommended strains for noob growers? if so, should prolly list this one under xprncd growers section.

peace

(and not to mention they had snoid clinging on to them).

THey had what clinging to them? About the strains for new growers, not sure about that, OG had a strain guide, but that was removed when the site got shut down :(

I know orage bud is a good strain to grow, very easy, it's by Dutch passion.
Stay away from blueberry, very picky strain and not for newer growers.

Ya, those roots look alright now, did you mean they had snot looking stuff on them?

What were your water temps at? Did you use any superthrive in your system?

Your plants are still young those roots look fine for the size of the plant you got.

Snoid = snot, uncooked eggwhites
thanks for the tip on orange bud -- maybe ill give that a shot next time around

water temps bounced around a bit (earlier on they got up to 76 at times). later started using ice but ran in to other probs doing that, so started using frozen 2 ltr bottles and managed to keep temps down, usually not more than 72 and down to 68

got a chiller, but too late
a coouple of plants roots were really no more than just two long lines dipping into the res, with little else coming out (maybe placed in hdroton wrong??)

didnt try superthrive -- saw it in a store yesterday, but wasnt really sure what it is. something good for the roots? does it fight the snot? started using h202 and SM-90, but guess it was too late

Don't use superthrive, it will snot up your system.

The snot you are seeing is start of root rot from warm temps

sm90 works really good, hydroguard helps prevent it, but if you don't have water temps under control all the time it can only fend off soo much bacteria before the system needs changed or more needs to be added.

I would not use h202 if you are using organics, it should only be used for a temp situation.

If there is still snot on the roots, then you need to clean out your system and add some sm90 to your system, follow the directions on the back of the bottle and you should be good to go.

SOmething with the o2 and bubbles in hydro reacts with superthrive and it causes a gunk/snot like substance to form in the system and it should be avoided at all cost.

As always MynameStitch, thanks. Glad i didn't try superthrive. I was thinking it would be better to try and keep things as simple as possble w/ what I put in the res, in case i ran into probs.

would you mind clarifying some thigns for me? im sure its obvious, but for future reference wanted to be doubly sure i understnd you correctly re H2O2, SM-90 and hydroguard.

hydroguard is ony good to use before getting the snot, and doesnt help after the fact?

H2O2 doesnt really help clean the stuff up, but SM-90 does and is good to use thruout?

I've got GH's Floranova nutes -- ive seen it listed as organic on some sites, but not on others. On their site they say:
"The marriage of hydroponic & organic gardening methods." Spose that means its organic? If thats true, your saying i shouldnt use Grotek's Super Oxy in the future while ?

i'm sure all this is clear as day, but i think with my luck i need be espcially careful next time aroound.

Peace

Marriage...that sounds so nice......

If I could toss in my two cents...skip past go and get some cannazyme. That will do all the cool things that the others will do in one easy package.....except the snot thing which I freely admit I am clueless about. Cannazyme will protect and nourish your roots at the same time.....sorry if I sound like an ad there but if you use it and keep your temps good you should not have to use either the SM-90, the H202 (NO using H202 with the zyme products as a rule......higrozyme may be an exception......I know one of them is) At any rate it's not cannazyme, so no Grotek Super Oxy or any H202 product. Let me see if I can find a link to it.

Yes, weedhound is correct, cannazyme and products like sensizyme help with dead root matter and other beneficial bacteria that help avoid this problem and help beef up the plants immune system and there fore helping it prevent root rot.

Yes, hydroguard is only good for before hand, during it won't do much good, but cannazyme and others I think work a little better, hydroguard is very popular and works well, but for certain situations other products may work better.

H202 does help clean up stuff, it destroys the bacteria that is caused from root rot, but it also kills off other beneficial bacteria that is good, the good bacteria that helps the plant fend of problems.

Sm90 is like hydroguard, but it also prevents and destroys root rot, where hydroguard protects, but not real good at getting rid of the problem.

All the products in the world is not going to help unless you have the main cause under control. It will just keep coming back even after getting rid of it, if you can't control your temps.

Not sure if floranova is organic or not, I think it is if I remember correctly...... will have to double check.
