Best way to set up scrubber and fan

V

vonforne

I have just purchased a new 6" can fan(465cmf) and a Can 66 scrubber. I want to cool my lights also. Do I hook up scrubber-fan-lights? Or is there a better way? I have 2 dayton 165 blowers also but they struggle to cool my 1k's. Any ideas everyone?

Thanks, Von

I'm using one hood that was set-up for air-cool and one I customized. Both 4" inlets.

I always use scrubber > light(s) > fan > exhaust...as long as your lights are sealed air tight. Using a scrubber at the end of the run will shorten it's life from the heat that'll be passing through it...but it may be necessary if you can't seal your lights air tight.

I'm working on that now, they will be 100% air tight. Well....99%.

NO,NO,NO!!!!!!!
please read carefully and visualize what i am saying,

what are scrubbers for??? to clean the StinK!!!!
what are AIR COOLED lights for???? to keep temps more in control!!!!!!

u should use an intake air source that originates outside your air conditioned growOR living space!!!

pass this outside air (not stinky!!!) through ur light(s) and back out of the structure/space you DO NO NEED to scrub HOT air!!!! you need to buy another canfan same size/model and scrub the air with in the grow space itself AS THAT IS WHERE THE STINK IS!!
besides to suck your cooled air out of the grow space will make ur A/C run NON stop!!
costing more ENERGY USAGE!!!!! ( BAD! BAD!BAD!)
i cool my lights and i scrub air within the space itself and my energy bills are fine.
my setup is the culmination of ALOT of research thought!!!
please dont fuck yourself configure it after some careful thought!!
you have done the right thing askin for advice!!!
good luck!!

you can cool ur lights with the same fan as ur regular ventilation..... ad yes its best to be filter - fan - cooltube/hood - outside. Obviously in a perfect world you would use seperate fans but not every1 can-as long as ur fan is powerful enough it wont give you any problems at all.

Thanks everyone. scrubber-fan-lights-out. I only have one fan right now and another is not in the budget until 2 wks. so I will run it like that for now. The only other option now would be to use the Daytons....but not cool enough. But I will buy a bigger Can-Fan in 2 weeks and pull outside air to cool the lights. Its a long distance and it needs to be constructed and hidden.
Or I could hook up the new fan to the exsisting A/c since I have a window shaker in the wall. What do you think of that idea?

i use a push/pull fan config through three 400 HPS in super suns w/glass,
outside air to push fan to light to light to lightto pull fan to outside
this is times two as i run six four hundreds in bloom area thre on left and three on right. i use scrubbers within the space itself and i use a co2 burner (very sealed room w/ independant A/C) taken me years to get it right. ive just about got my ultimate vision that acually functions as "dreamed" . made lotza mistakes, costly ones along the way!!!
just wanna share my view on your settup needs/config.

when you want to air cool light housings in "series" (multiple lights) it is recomended to
configure "push/pull" this means one fan blows "PUSHES" outside air though 2 or 3 or 4 housings ducted in series then through the intake of a "PULL" fan that pushes back outside .
if u r only coolin one light u really dont need the push pull setup/

Thanks. Sounds like my old Daytons, working together might cool my 2 1ks.

"VON" do you understand that outide air going througha glass sealed housing(s) and back outside was NEVER STINKY hence the scrubber is NOT needed at all to treat that airstream. :bat:

if you suck interior air from the grow space (stinky air) though the lights and out you will NEED the scrubber. but if u r air conditioned (most homes are) and you suck though the scrubber in the space to cool your lights you are sucking the airconditioning AND your CO2 OUT if you dont use CO2 then u need to air change at least hourly!!! but certainly not constantly
if u dont use co2 use the scrubber on your air change config.
but plumb that shit seperate from your light plumbing/ducting.

common methods tio manage grow room heat:

first thing is to get your remote ballsts out of the grow space they add fuckloads of BTUs to the enviroment!!
second is to vent/air change (pulls the hot air out replace w/out side air) , this has security and CO2 ramifications.
third method is good ole air conditioning ( a few options/configs to choose from)
a) portable A/C , on wheels use a hose(s) to remove heat from condenser.very stealth
b)"window shaker" A/C has simple one piece design,in therory, good for sealed rooms
not steathy and security risk(s)
c) split system, ideal for sealed rooms but not too stealthy
fourth, swamp coolers work well in dry arid regions shitty everywhere else and promotes mold if not appplied correctly.
fifth, air cooling the lights is almost a must if heat is of any concern

hope this helps!!

Two fans at either end. Same cmf in those fans? Or would 1 fan 465cmf over a shorter distance work?

fuzzys pic is an example of needin the can scrubber cuzz his setup uses interior air to cool his housings. he probly uses the make up air for the healthy exchange of fresh co2.
i live in a warm humid climate i couldnt afford my A/C bill w/ his setup.

your question is unclear to me "von" . :chin:
how many lights u wanna cool??
their wattage????
housing type(s)???
"got glass"??????
how big of ducting do you wish to use???
how far/distance????
do u use a CO2 burner/botttle/bucket ????
is your room sealed well/door included????
do you use A/C to cool your grow space??

you said earlier u got a canfan and a scrubber already :yummy:
please clarify these questions and we'll give you more accurate help

2 1k's
housing type...old one, original greenair air cooled with 4" flange enclosed
1 hood has been converted to 4" flange it came enclosed with glass but no flanges, I added them
6" ducting
A/C window shaker(6000 btu) and house A/C 6" inlet
room is almost completely wrapped in 4 mil plastic
door is sealed with felt weather stripping and tape
Can fan RS 6 HO 465 cmf and can filter 66
I use house A/c for fresh air into room
Co2 bottle and controller

If you're running CO2 and can keep your room sealed, I'd just use the 6" Can Fan to air cool the lights via a closed system (dedicated intake/exhaust) then use one of the daytons to recirculate air in the room through the scrubber. But that will depend on if you can control the temps with the 6Kbtu AC alone...

Thats a good idea MTF. I found I can pull fresh air from underneath my kitchen cabinet.(if not to much noise) Using the Can fan would be the good idea. Like Buzz said...BTW thanks for the input, I think I will recirculate the room air with the scrubber. I'm just wondering if the Dayton at 165 cmf has enough ass to do it. I still have this week to work on finishing my room. I know your supposed to finish before you place polants in them but due to circumstances I could not do that.(another story)

Anyway....how does this sound
1. Use the can-fan to cool lights bringing air from outside the grow, then out.
2. Scrub air contained within the grow(recirculating my cool air)
3. I have, besides the 6000btu window shaker a 6" House inlet for cooling.
with both those going my temps are around 81 to 85 with lights on 24 hr burn. My grow is in the basement of a stilt hame and I live in a HOT area so I consider that accetable...for now. It's been 10 years since I have grown. Besides fighting a tight budget and old equipment AND learning all the new things and how to use them properly, I think I'm getting close to finishing everything up. If there is something I missed.......call me slow and fill me in. And BTW Sandman--- MTF matches mine.

And this forum is much more interesting than the others. In organic soil we have NO stickys or even a moderator posting. Different people asking the same questions over and over again. Thanks guys and gals you have helped bring me back to what I found I love the most. My plants! :woohoo:
