Best water filter for SoCal?

I'm looking at hydrologic big boy with upgraded KDF5/Catalytic carbon filter and the hydrologic big boy with KDF. What are the main differences? Should I consider something different? I appreciate the input.

Kdf is unnecessary.
Just make sure to clean your sediment filter often and replace the carbon block on schedule to keep the membrane in good shape.
