Best use of a sq.ft.... bucket vs 4 pots?

So first off I want to sog lollipops, dildos, single cola plants etc etc Veg 10-20 days then flip.... or even perpetual the whole thing every 2 weeks yank a bucket and harvest it.

So I have say a 2x3 flowering area. I want to know if it would be better to fill it with 24 6x6x9 pots with 1 clone in each or 6 5gallon buckets with 5 clones in each one? The 5 gallon buckets would give me 30 plants rather than 24. 5 per sq.ft. vs 4 per.

Either way each plant gets about a gallon to work with. I just don't know what 5 plants are going to do sharing the same medium. I've read on old school sogs but I see most were shallow beds not buckets.

I was thinking hempy bucket or soil so I thought the 5 gallon buckets would be easier to deal with than 24 individual plants yeah?

So basically my question is, what are going to be the growth/yield differences between growing multiple plants in a bucket compared to individual plants?

Pictures worth a dime

buckets , growbags , constructed shallow beds.......all do same thing imo, BUt you can always run witha bucket they say

beds are awkward ime buckets up to 20 litres about 4 gallons are easy to manouvre but its a matter of choice and ease of method to suit ppls situations

I am making the switch from one large bed of hydroton to 6x6 containers.

In your situation it seems like the buckets might be a hassle. They wont be evenly spaced as you are going to have gaps between buckets and you wont be able to reposition any of the plants. the containers wil give you even coverage/spacing

The one advantage I see is if doing perpetual, each bucket could have its own nutrient program

I really want to get 8oz under a 400. So I figured the hempy's passive hydro will speed things up and be a little easier for me. I just have no idea how many plants like that I'm going to need.... to eventually get 8oz. Don't need more but don't want a lot less. But no one on lemon stinky grows ever lists their yields. I might need 10-16-24-36 plants.......

30 or 24 plants maybe hopefully 5-14 grams each maybe.....

So I think my final height will be 12-14 inches so it would look like 5 spears coming out of a bucket. The strain for the whole cab will be lemon stinky which Mat tells me doesn't stretch at all really. So I was thinking fold leaves and trim for single colas. I was also thinking that the roots will do very good in the taller buckets which are like 14.5 tall as opposed to the 6x6x9.

The buckets are like 11.75 across the top which would fill the same space but even with gaps it would still be more plants. I really want to get 8oz under a 400. So I figured the hempy's passive hydro will speed things up and be a little easier for me.

The main reason I was asking is because 6 is a lot easier to water than 24. If it's 6x6 then I have to find a container to do the hempy in with no drain holes. With the bucket I'm golden, plus I can tote each one to the bath tube to water and return it when it's drained and dry on the outside.

I've got no room for a tray really so I would have to water 24 small pots. So that's the downside but jesus I think the buckets are going to weigh a ton when finished. The small pots would give me a lot more flexibility but only seem doable with a tray and active hydro.

I dunno.... I guess you have to try to know for sure.

I would go for the separate containers.

When they are all planted in the same container, you run the risk of some plants dominating others, causing an uneven canopy. I saw this happen the last time I went through a grow. I had two plants in one big bucket to see how it went. One dominated over the other and caused the second plant to have stunted growth. If the plants would have been in 2 pots, both would have potentially grown out to their fullest.

In addition: if something goes wrong with one plant, you don't want it spread to your other plants. Having separate containers will at least allow you to easily move, remove, or cure problems.

Just my :2cents:

I cant push the pots or hempy buckets as I really dont know alot about hempy buckets.

All I can say is if you want to use the pots, build a tray/table yourself to your exact dimensions and line it with panda film, plastic , or stronger pond liner. You still need a footprint or square footage for whatever you decide and a homemade table will only take up a hair bit more. That way you can water in place and not have to move them at all. check out the the oldest pages of my gallery for an idea.

moving plants every couple days to water them while in full flower seems like a broken plant waiting to happen.

So if I build a custom tray/table that fits my space (which is 1/2 an inch too small for store bought trays) Then it really doesn't matter if I do hempy or soil or whatever.... i'll be able to water in place.

I like the sound of that.
