Fox Farm Ocean Forrest with added perlite to start seeds. When potting up add some ewc, perlite and a bit of lime.

Did FFOF get a recipe change recently? Newest couple bags I opened seem a lot different from even bags earlier this year. More perlite, more consistent mix, little to no chips or sticks. Also price went up a couple bucks.

^^^ I can't answer your question but I've read elsewhere it may have changed. I bought another brand that's claimed to be a clone of Fox Farm Ocean Forrest but I can't confirm that. This stuff is Victory Sea Blend from Sanctuary Soils and it's definitely too dense. Had I realized this I would have amended it before I planted. I'm new to this so I'm making many mistakes. At any rate, this soil doesn't drain well. I have 5 gallon buckets I keep in a lean-to covered with translucent white corrugated siding material for stealth purposes and because this hot Texas sun just fries the leaves. I finally learned that I was over-watering my plants due to the lack of drainage, despite the many large holes in the bottoms of the buckets and they all sit on top of 2 inches of river rock. The drainage is so poor that I didn't water the remaining living plants for a full month and the soil away from the sides of the buckets was still metering wet. Now I'm just watering a tiny bit around the perimeters of the buckets. The new crop will have amended soil. I've mixed 1 part each of vermiculite and perlite with two parts rice hulls then mixed that 1:1 with soil from the bags. It drains much better so I'm hoping I don't kill this crop. We'll soon find out.

FFOF & FFHF are great complimentary soils. I used to use HF early in veg and repotted into OF for bloom. My issue came when I found root aphids climbing out the bag of Ocean Forest. Those little f*ck*rs were ripping my roots to pieces and killed my taste and performance. Then, I moved to Promix BX, been there ever since. I wouldn't mind revisiting the OF/HF since I now know how to address the aphids. Have you considered building your own soil? Tiger Bloom from Wally World isn't bad. I know, I know, I know, mj growers are like... "WHAT?" But, I wouldn't mind giving Tiger Bloom another try.

so what other suggestions for ready to use organic soils that dont need nutrients or just ro water throughout grow and some in flower? im so use to coco feeding

Dr Earth pot of gold has a very nice product, cheap with lots of organics in it.
Needs added perlite for aeration.

Is Roots Organics Original ok for seedlings? Heard it's comparable to Happy Frog, maybe just a tad stronger.

I get whatever is on sale. To me it's kind of like soda... I prefer coke but meh, I'll take a pepsi or whatever is cold and bubbly.

Most of the big brands offer the same basic flavors. How much nutes/ammending you need to add just depends on which flavor you're getting.

-Peat/coco/perlite based 'soilless'

-Peat/coco/perlite based potting mix

-Ammended potting mix

I haven't found any one brand of media that is noticeably superior to any other. Mostly I prefer to buy 5kg coco bricks and make my own.
