Anyone try bone tar oil? It smells so bad that it's hard to believe. Years ago the local agricultural service gave it away for free to anyone having trouble with deer eating their strawberries, or whatever.

Oh fer' sure. We have no limit on antlerless deer here. Shoot all you want and it doesnt make much of a dent in the population other than keeping it stable.
The venison makes great Christmas presents and I also give quite a bit away to friends and those in need.
Here at home we turn the critters into a variety of sausages both fresh and smoked, cured and smoked venison hams along with burger and steaks. Im surprised we dont grow antlers, we eat venison so often. I also cure and smoke all our own bacon. Yum!

You must have a lot of Venison in the freezer?

planning a more conventional outdoor garden, and i see recent deer sign
sigh, these are the lords of plant destruction, deterring them is not easy
i do hear some good things about liquid fence, pondering my choices
i know you can mix your own, primarily a mix of eggs, liquid detergent, and garlic

Chocolope is one of my all-time favorite smokes so I always put one or two out. I've had a mom for a few years. From seed, you would want a few to pheno hunt as there a a few flavor pheno's and mother the best. The flower time is within reason for outdoor, she is not quick to start budding but she really fattens and ripens quickly at the end.. She needs that last 2 weeks to fatten up then she yields well. She is well resistant to spider mites outside, but not BM at all, PM gets her but I've not noticed a loss of vigor resulting and she fairs ok/average with bud rot and bad if you have rains during the last bit of flower, she will ripen overnight as a response and of you don't pick rot sets in... She has strong stems grown outside and holds her own weight unlike the SK1's and unlike she does indoors, her stretch is reasonable outside and not an issue and she bushes like crazy with many many cola's and budsites. All round a good plant, not a beginner plant outside at the very least but very rewarding and not too fussy. She likes lime and PK for flowering and is otherwise not too fussy. Deer/buck love her and caterpillars too, so precautions I guess.

Also on preference, I've seen that young stuff is preferred all the way, with sticky trichome laden buds being not the crowd favorite for the wildlife. That said sometimes a critter gets a taste for it and sometimes a fully flowered plant just gets munched! I think garlic oil is the way forward..As well as other animal death smelling stuff and hounds!

Last season a friend of mine was growing in a fenced off area. The fence was about 5 ft high. When he was checking on his crop his dog ran up to the garden and there was a deer. The deer freaked out and jumped the fence, but he hit the 4x4 post and snapped it in half. Very powerful animal.

hmm, alarming deer by some predator stimulus has been batted around a bit on other threads
what about a motion detector/rattlesnake sound setup? i'd think that could be done pretty easily, minimal equipment
not sure how deer deal with that sound
