BEST DEER/RACCOON DETERRENT TECHNIQUES

other than a fence you mean? I've seen all kinds of stuff designed to keep the critters away...but when there's no other food around they don't really seem to care about that stuff. last year I made some peace offerings of various fruits and vegetables, not sure what effect it had other than laughter.

racoons don't seem to come around our area because we let our dogs roam around, so I think that scent is a major deterrent.

Was just gonna say fencing is the only thing I would trust. I hear Deer-Off works relatively well, also heard of hair and fishing line around your plot (deer can't see it but feel it?)

Well, i just bought 2 rolls of 7' fence for a little over 420. they are 330 ft. long
i can throw one roll over my shoulder...its plastic fencing, black, but made just for deer.
That being said, i saw a product...organic, none the less (allegedly..i dont call it organic) but it is pig and/or cow blood, at least 12 %, suspended in vegetable oil.
i cant remember the name, because i dont support the slaughterhouse industry(i DO eat humanely raised/killed meat) but they said it works for 3 months, so they apply it every 2 1/2 months in the growing cycle
you could probably get it from a slaughterhouse...heck... maybe a butcher.
or mix blood meal and veg oil???
just a thought, hope this helps

A greenhouse... or if on guerrilla missions apparently hot chilli powder sprinkled onto the leaves helps.. I wonder if planting a patch of tobacco around your patch would help, nothing wants to eat or walk through that sticky shit, it'll trap bugs too. Also grow some RKS, if someone has managed to revive it yet, I don't any animal wants to become roadkill too ;)

Why not plant some amarynth or any other super-vigorous highly nutritious leaf vegetables or vegetables around to distract or appease them and grow the most noxious dope that they'd rather not eat? Just running my thoughts here, what works for everyone out there? I haven't solved this one myself... I put a few plants out this year, maybe 3 out of 12 did not get eaten to the bone. Bubblegums were all eaten within days of the first taste, an old skunk1 cut half got eaten and a single chocolope survived. Last year though with mainly the SK1 cut and a few LA's nothing got eaten. There was evidence of 'taste testing' early after putting cuts out last year but the leaves had been spat out where they were bitten and white plant name tags were pulled out of the soil and spat out. They first and only plants to get tasted were the really in your face stinky SK1's and everything was left alone after that, they only difference that I can think of between the two years was that last year I extensively sprayed with garlic oil and ACT ( including BT culture) during veg which I did not this year and that this year the first plants tasted were the bubblegums and it was on from then! Dogs also help, last year there were more dogs around...

If growing in the wild, remember that it is the deers land too and they were here long before us.. We just have to be creative to grow in harmony. there will be a solution. In other places in the world they have to deal with elephants trashing their crops, it could always be worse! We need to appreciate the wildlife and work together.

That's not TOO bad actually, being 330 ft and that high. I'd like to see them hop a 7 footer! Pretty doubtful lol.

With THAT being said, where did you find those fences?!?
I'll look into the blood as well, but I hear you on being against the slaughter houses man. That shit is fucked. Thanks for your input btw, very helpful!
deer can hop a 7ft fence like nothing

I live in a deer saturated area. Frickin things are everywhere. I had seven of the bastards on my front lawn when I woke up yesterday morning. When I go outside to chase them off they look at me like they are daring me to chase them off. Brazen little monsters.
The only things that work here are fencing at least six feet tall and a product called Liquid Fence. Liquid Fence smells like rotten eggs and garlic. Nasty, but the deer and rabbits hate it. I never spray it on my plants but use it to create a perimeter of stink around the plants by spraying on the surrounding vegetation. It lasts quite a while, even after a rain.
Coons wont be much of a problem unless you use lots of amendments in your soil such as blood meal, fish meal and the like which will have a smell that attracts coons. You need to keep that in mind if you use something like dried blood to chase off the deer.
Ive found that in a natural environment where there is enough food for the deer it is fairly easy to prevent them from eating your plants. They dont want to work too hard so if you make it difficult they will seek food somewhere else.

This is my favorite deer control method. I shoot 10-15 deer every year.

I live in a suburb and had trouble with Raccoons. I swear they have a wristwatch as they know each garbage day and hit the street the night before to eat the garbage people leave out. This summer I am going to try a battery operated (6 flashlight batteries) electric fence for varmints. I am afraid they will tear up the garden worse if I piss them off though. Also I heard if you take that black netting people use for cherry trees and lay it flat on the ground around plants they won't step in it because they get their paws caught in it. I am convinced they tear stuff up just to spite me.

Wire cages and netting/fencing will probably work just fine for deer and rabbits and other smaller animals, but around here we have tons of elk everywhere. How are you supposed to stop a group of horse-sized animals that want to eat your plants?
