carrying mason jars on carry on luggage would be a no no. the broken glass could be used as a weapon. so sounds like that would be askin for trouble.

Not true. Mason jars are permitted. I have transported gourmet coffee (yes, coffee not cannabis) in Mason Jars many times before and have not had any trouble with security. Your mileage may very however if in fact my being allowed to carry the Mason Jars on the plane was due to the negligence of security personnel.
