I have a BudBox grow tent and I'm quite pleased with the build quality and sturdiness of the thing.
I can't comment on how these compare to the others on the market however, as this is the only one I have bought.

I'm thinking of getting a 4x8 grow tent quite soon and I'm torn between the BudBox, HomeBox and the Dark Room. I'm looking for light-tightness and quality of components (especially the zips) as the main factors.

Hopefully someone who has had a few tents will drop by and enlighten us? :joint:

thanks gangabiss im leaning towards the jardine dark room tents cause of the silver lining i had a grow tent with the white plastic lining ezitent brand and it let off toxic fumes and might of destroyed my sensi and nirvana's northern lights grow hopefully i can nurse them back to health things arent looking good though fingers crossed...

I have heard a lot of the fumes, I have played around with the idea of getting a tent as well.

Anyone ever scrub the tent out when the set it up, with some nice teatree soap or something like that.

Couldn't hurt to try to wash away the manufacturing resins on the thing.

BENJI, Mylar is a silver reflective material you can buy to hang on your grow room walls for better light reflectivity.

Sorry about your JH babies man. Hope they bounce back. I'm sure they will with a little tlc.

My BudBox definately had a plasticky smell to it when I first opened it...still does really lol. But my plants seem to be happy so I'm not worrying.

Can anyone comment on which would be the better purchase, the Dark Room or the HomeBox 4x8?? Based on quality.

Secret Jardin all the way.

The 2008 models have the best zippers of any tent, and are vastly superior to Homebox in terms of construction. Roof cross members that make sense and can actually be used rather than some little wires that bend if you hang a cfl. Even the new SunHuts messed up their Jardin imitation by making one set of roof bars way lower than the other so they do not support each other. The SunHut floor cover thing is made with the same stuff causing problems in the Hydrohuts as well, so I am not sure why SunHut did that but it is one more thing preventing them from being a viable option.

For now, Jardin is way ahead, though imitations like the SunHut will hopefully get better and be viable competition, and hopefully Homebox will replace the ceiling supports so they can be viable as well.

As for washing down those toxic Hydrohuts, there is nothing you can wash them with to fix the problem, as it isn't related to a substance on the tent, but the improperly manufactured tent cover itself. Tons of threads about this too, so please, no more suggestions from anybody about washing them out. We all tried that first a long time ago. :smoke:

Here's some pics of my setup. Notice you can actually hang a reflector and decent sized carbon filter from the ceiling support bars. In the Hydrohut/Homebox style tent, I had to hang them on the main tent frame itself, which was ultra inconvenient, and reduced the effectiveness of my filter because half of it was pressed up against the tent. That or i could have let it take up a plant's spot on the ground which I am definitely not down with.

DR150 w/ Cool Sun reflector and can33 filter:

Same setup in my DR120:

Same setup in a Habitat tent (same as Homebox aside from the metal corners):

Looking good Bongjangles.

I use a homebox for my motherplants, and I have no complaints. It's one of the earlier models that came out so I'm sure they're making better ones now, and it has never really been put to the test in terms of heat extraction and rigidity, since I only run neons in there, without cooling or extraction.

Come to think of it, I do have one wish for future models. Imagine a hot summer day and you want to keep the tent 'door' open, then you need something to attach the flap on the side of the tent, but there's nothing.

Rosy Cheeks, I've found that when you have an extractor fan hooked up to the huts you actually need the doors closed to keep it properly cool. Otherwise the fan simply can't do it's job and pulls the air straight from the open door (leaving the heat to build up in the tent) rather than it flowing over the plants and light as it should.

I assume that is the reason they don't put attachments on the sides for the doors.

The Jardin tents have velcro straps on the front door and side of the tent to hold it open should one desire to run it that way or just for convenience when working in there. At least my dr120 and dr150 do, dunno about the smaller and larger ones but I suspect they do as well.

Thanks for the compliment Rosy Cheeks, much appreciated!

Whatever dude, you're a fool for accusing me of making a sales pitch.

A bit jealous perhaps? LOL

No reports of the Jardin tents off gassing like the Habitat/Hydrohut/SunHut/offbrand tents. No reports of the Homebox tent off gassing either. You didn't bother to do your homework though, just like your last post in this thread.

Anyways Mosad, your opinion and input on this matter is useless, so you can just leave the discussion to those of us who actually have experience with these tents.

I have a homebox XL and I like it OK, although I wish I would of done more homework and bought a secret jardin. I have a couple complaints about the homebox, all having to do with ventilation. All the other tents have a bunch of options of how to setup your ventilation, and the homebox does not.

First of all, On 3/4 walls of the homebox are flaps for passive intakes. I wish these had velcro on them so you didn't have to tape them up if you didn't want to use them.

Secondly, there are only 2 places to run ventilation through without modifying it. I have not setup this tent in a grow yet (I have been in the middle of a move/staying at my parent's/on vacation :rasta:). So I may be wrong on the sizes of the vent holes, but it looked to me as if there is one 4" hole with a "sock" for an intake or cords. And there is one 6" for an exhaust on the ceiling of the tent, also with a sock.

The only thing I like about the ventilation system is the "sock" system, which has a drawstring on the end so you have tool/tape free ventilation installation. It's nice and quick. But, if you are looking for a different ventilation setup or implementing CO2, you will have to do some modifications.

In my opinion, it's just easier with the secret jardin... my top choice.

Wow man, sure; I bought I give you my address and you come find out what I am jelous about.......I will let you even knock on my door without calling it tresspassing........I'm to lazy to track ya down

I really am just looking at the options for my next indoor grow, so don't be a punk with me...unless you are on my doorstep and want a shovel to go dig a prayer grave with (native american thing/ Mafia used em to, ha ha ha) ..

I thought I wanted the SUnhut over at hidhut, but after seeing your lovely tent I was like, "wow, maybe that one is cool too".

I don't think Sunhut is offbrand but I have never seen a tent in person, they say price does reflect things and your hut actually seems cheaper....not to get you all paranoid....maybe we need a consumer study done, an actual professional one and not all stony ego dickhead types saying what they bought......just my two cents, American cents.

I have the homebox XS. Its well constructed and durable, although one more round vent would be nice. The vents also perform best when the doors are closed per manufacturers suggestion.
