I got some Maverick 8" that I'm pretty happy with. I know they are sort of a knock off brand, but the work fine and you can't beat the price!
Ive spoken with sunlight supply techs several times about the SS2, XXXL's & the newest Blockbusters...
the XXXL's light isn't as focused & concentrated like the SS2's and Blockbusters, the XXXL's are for a bigger footprint,, for instance the 8" XXXL's have a footprint for up to 5' x 6'6" and are optimally meant for shorter canopies..
SS2's and Blockbuster light is more concetrated and are better for taller canopies, meaning if your plants are 3' tall, the lower branches will recieve stronger light from the SS2 and BB's.. the 6" & 8" Blockbusters were developed optimally for a 4' x 4' area where as the SS2 works best with areas aproximately 3' x 3' or even smaller tho many many of us have sworn for years by SS2's abilities to cover a 4 x 4 with great success..
i predict that in due time peeps will be ravin about their Blockbusters !!!

I have a couple of the 6" XXXL's and they have to be the best hoods I've ever used. They're just a pain in the ass to move around because of their size. But that's to be expected. I bought them after they were tested in the reflector test thread. I originally got an 8" but it wouldn't fit in my 5x5 with enough clearance, had to bring it back. After some research I found out that 6" is definitely the better choice. I believe an 8" xxxl is perfect for a 1500w hps, but a bit too big otherwise. Apparently the light loss through the larger duct openings is actually significant as well.
They definitely make the bulbs too, no doubt, haha.
I never bothered looking at the ss2 after seeing the lumens test results. I like the magnums, always will, very unlikely that I'll ever switch reflectors again. Very unlikely. The block buster doesn't really appeal to me either, just not interested in switching reflectors. I'm completely fulfilled.
Bug screen will hold you over, but if/when you can afford it, try to get a big ole HEPA filter on your intake. Even if it's passive.
I also hope you're planning on having carbon filters on each of your multiple exhausts. I personally pull cold air in from outside to blow across my lights, but I keep it sealed from the rest of the room. Not just so I don't need another filter, but it cools the lights a lot better then the hot air in the room. Then I normally have an A/C, but if I don't... or in my veg room I just exhaust through the top, but never without a filter.
The 600 watt MH bulbs that are available are conversion bulbs, which are significantly less efficient. If you want MH for veg then either have multiple 400 MH or half as many 1k MH on movers. The truth is you'll veg just fine under HPS if you're strapped for cash.
Well yes, and the bug screen helps. But eventually get your hands on a HEPA filter because all kinds of things can get into your room through a bug screen... HEPA filters not for smell. It keeps the room clean by keeping the air clean.
As for using an A/C while ventilating the whole room... not so effective. (Think A/C on in the car, with the windows down on the high way) If you're going to spend money on two a/c's then you might want to look into sealing the room up and putting in CO2. A bottle, regulator and monitor might not break the bank.
quitters did you speak in phone or email? so you're saying that the xxxl's are ideal for big areas where it would cover more sqft right?
now since magnum's are not made to be concentrated on a footprint in terms of intensity but maybe i can we improve this by using the 1'k's daisy chain (overlapped side by side etc) Say in the amount of (4) 1k's? but 2 on one duct and 2 another duct but in each corner. so its like 4 reflectors evenly placed in the room.
would this have the same effect as the other reflectors so in other words does this make up for the so called loss of intensity footprint.
reason i ask is because in the 7x5x8 flower room i think that i feel confident should fit the magnum 6" x 4 of them but since i can place quite a few reflectors thats why im looking to see what reflector is better regardless if its meant for intense footprint or even light spread. hope this make sense
so the plan is doing (2) 1k's rather then the 600w because the mh on 1k's are significantly better for the use of mh due to conversion bulbs on 600w. so would that work best for veg?
or would it be best if i have 4(maybe more?) blockbusters in 1k's would this be better then 4 magnums 1k's? i want busy plants have a 12 or 16 site on the botanicare aerojet 4 tray aeroponics system so which route works best for me?
y hoping to get these as huge as i can
so would blockbusters/ss2 are better for my route or magnum
cooling can be made with ac/fans/venting co2 etc
